The day spoken of in many an ancient myth hath finally arrived: August the 1st, the official street date for mass market Thor Ragnarok (and Justice League) toys to be released! And while wily collectors have wiped out the Marvel Legends Thor Ragnarok 6″ series from many areas prior to the official release date, many stores put their remaining stock out today of the Marvel Legends 12″ Thor & Hulk figures and the 3.75″ Thor/Gladiator Hulk and Enchantress/Executioner packs…
As such, I’ve had quite a few readers write in today to say that their local stores are bereft of 6″ Marvel Legends Ragnarok wave figures, a finding that’s consistent with my own travels today (EE already shipped my case, but I just had to see for myself, y’know?).
And while I didn’t find a single new 6″ scale Thor Ragnarok ML figure at any of my local Target, Walmart or Toys R Us stores, I did see the newest Thor-related figures in the other Marvel Legends size ranges.
First up is the Marvel Legends 12″ Thor (that also went up for sale on Amazon today). We first saw prototypes of this sixth scale Thor figure prior to the New York Toy Fair 2017 in February, so it’s been nearly a half a year wait for Hasbro’s biggest God of Thunder to date.
The Thor 12″ Legends figure looks pretty much identical to how he looked at Toy Fair, with nary a change to be seen as far as I can tell. I totally dig the regular and blue “power-surge” Mjolnir hammers were given, as well as the bearded/non-bearded interchangeable heads and the removable helmet. The bearded head isn’t to my liking, but that’s what’s so great about swappable heads, right?
Thankfully, this Thor figure carries the usual $49.99 price tag and not the inflated $59.99 Target is charging for Symbiote Spider-Man. I’m a big advocate of this 1/6 line, and fully believe that $50 is a fair price for the size and quality of these super-articulated Hasbro figures.
I’ve seen that the 14.5″ Hulk Marvel Legends figure is up for sale online, but I’ve yet to actually encounter him myself in any of my travels. Some readers have wrote in and said they’ve seen him priced at $80, but Amazon has him at the correct $74.99.
That’s a hefty price tag, but this is a big boy. When you see him in person for the first time, you’ll understand why Hasbro had to make an exception and up the price on this Jade Giant.
Meanwhile, although the future looks very bleak for the Marvel Legends 4″ (Marvel Universe) scale (rainbow Deadpools were literally the only new figures in the line revealed at SDCC 2017), there are two new Thor 3.75″ two-packs hitting stores officially today as well.
The Enchantress & Executioner two-pack is gonna be a hit with comic fans, as it greatly improves upon the original 4″ Enchantress figure and also gives us the first Hasbro Skurge the Executioner action figure ever (a figure fans have been waiting for for several years, ever since it was initially shown and then cancelled). This is a great two-pack, and I really, truly hope it sells well.
Thor’s eyes looked super derpy in the only pack I found today, while Hulk’s looked awesome despite his bored expression. For $20, I think this is a fantastic pack–it’s a real shame that it doesn’t look like 4″ Hela, Loki or Valkyrie movie figures will be forthcoming to join the gladiators.
How much success did you have hunting at retail today (if you tried at all), Marvel collectors? What Thor Ragnarok figures did you find locally, and what do you think of them?
While they’re only 5 or 6 years overdue on releasing the 4″ Skuurge & Amora, I’m pleased. But those 12″ figures? I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire.
Is that Skuurge or the Executioner (or is Skuurge the Executioner’s name?) You may be confusing with Skourge, a Dark Elf giant
Skurge is the Executioner’s name. Karl Urban will play him in Thor: Ragnarok.
Got to open a Marvel Legends case at Toys R Us this morning.
It’s taking a significant amount of self-restraint to not jump on top of that 12″ Thor. Esad Ribic’s Thor is a strong contender for all-time best costume design for the character and this nails in spades where the Odin series release was limply passable. ‘I only collect 6″…I only collect 6″…’
12″ Legends are over priced…They shouldnt cost more than $39.99.
Hulk is disappointing and should of been a full 15+ inches .
Picked up all the Thors from the 6” wave at Target yesterday. Keep an eye out.
I got my 12″ Thor about 2 weeks ago when a local TRU screwed up and put them on the shelf early. I wasn’t going to buy one until I saw it in person and now I’m glad I did… even with the $50 price tag. It really is a great figure.
These were available at Walgreens last week along with the defenders wave. I went in to get the Dark Phoenix/Cyclops 2pack and nothing. It really pisses me off that they’ve put them out already and on the day they’re supposed to be released, no store within hundreds of miles has them, nor are they available online.
I saw Thor and Loki at my local TRU, but was looking for the 2 4″ 2 packs, but unfortunately didn’t see them. Scalpers probably already ravaged them.
I’m In NY and found the entire set in store late yesterday afternoon. They were in a separate display that I walked past! Luckily, a TRU employee pointed me back to them. Keep your eyes up and more will be out I’m sure!
I just ordered my Executioner/Enchantress 2-pack from Hasbro.
I’ll probably get it by Monday. Hasbro ships super fast!
I hope they do the Excutioner in the 6 inch scale that was rumoured as a Baf some time ago. The 12 inch figures will be at clearance very soon as were the previous once so may buy it then.
