It’s the first Monday of the month, and that means today was the day for another Hasbro Marvel Monday reveal! And this time out, Hasbro officially confirmed a figure that’s been heavily rumored since early in the year: the 2020 Marvel Legends Toxin figure is now up for order! This massive symbiote may look familiar to those who have either version of the Monster Venom figure that Hasbro has released twice now—is enough different to warrant a fresh purchase of this deluxe boxed figure?
When purported leaks started circulating back in early February 2020 that a new Toxin Marvel Legends figure was on the way, it was one of those rumors that you hear and instantaneously know in your heart to be true.
Let’s face it—there’s not a whole heck of a lot of characters that Hasbro could repurpose the Monster Venom Build-A-Figure tooling for, and Toxin happens to be one of the few characters who fits the comparability bill. And so, once I saw the rumor, it’s been on the back of my mind as something all-but-certain to be announced ever since.
And lo and behold, for Marvel Monday today—it was!
If you were put off by the 2018 Monster Venom Build-A-Figure being repainted into a more classic Venom figure and released as a deluxe boxed figure for 30 bucks earlier this year, Hasbro is making another play to earn your hard-earned dollars with this somewhat more differentiated retool of that release with this deluxe Toxin Legends figure.
There’s three big differences between this figure and it’s predecessors: 1) an all-new crimson and black paint job that evokes a more gory and violent feel; 2) many more tendrils added to the back of the figure to make it feel more savage and monstrous; and 3) an all-new grotesque head sculpt with creepy eyes and green tongue.
Frankly, this is a pretty horrifying action figure—exactly what Hasbro’s design team was aiming for. This hulking Toxin won’t necessarily be a familiar concept to fans who aren’t modern day comic book readers, but I reckon Hasbro is hoping to make quite a few sales off the sheer “coolness” factor of this gnarly symbiote.
There was previously an Ultimate Green Goblin Series Marvel Legends Toxin figure released way back in 2014, but that figure was a far cry from the huge brute that we’re getting here. I suspect most fans of the character are going to much prefer this new iteration of the symbiote.
The deluxe Marvel Legends Toxin Figure is now up for PO, and is scheduled to ship out in November 2019. Toxin is a “Fan Channel” exclusive that won’t be available via the biggest retailers like Target and Walmart, so you may want to reserve one online if you want one. Given the mainstream secondary nature of this character, I definitely could foresee this being a much shorter production run than the Venom figure using the same mold this year.
Any thoughts on this latest repurposing of the Monster Venom BAF mold, Marvel Legends collectors? Is this violently red symbiote the best use yet of this tooling, and is it bound for your collection? Or is Toxin too obscure to earn a $30 spot on your shelf?
It is available on Amazon currently.
If there was paint added to those little tendrils for more detail there, I wouldn’t be able to resist. Currently, I’m totally able to resist. Looks like an amazing figure for someone who is familiar with it.
Sold! I missed the other Toxin figure so this will be a more than welcome addition to my collection. When I first started collecting Marvel Legends, my goal was to JUST collect symbiote figures. That didn’t pan out very well as my collection addiction got the best of me but I did manage to stay on the wagon when the Venom BAF repaint was announced. One day at a time…
BTW… it will ship November 2020… not 2019. Or maybe we’re getting a redo of 2020? 🙂
Pre-ordered. I’ve to admit I’m kind of a completest and as such have a hard time resisting new figures unless they are very minor repaints or the same figures in a different packaging… and even then.
Also note that Toy Biz also released a Toxin way back in 2007. It’s a bit small, but besides that it’s better than Hasbro’s first try as far as I’m concerned.
Yeah, I kinda’ wish it was the classic Pat Mulligan, as I don’t remember ever seeing Toxin go huge, hulking, monster symbiote like this. I’m pretty sure this is Eddie Brock and Toxin. I’m still in though, since it’s another good lookin’ use of the sculpt.
Yeah it is Eddie, it’s how he was in the Agent Venom series.
I wish they did a better head sculpt but I am still buying it no matter what.
