Hasbro launched their inaugural wave of Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2 GamerVerse figures earlier this week, and now they’ve followed up in rapid succession with what’s unquestionably the singular most-wanted character from the video game: the humongous GamerVerse Marvel Legends Venom figure is now up for order! He’s got an oversized 10.5” year of bulk, but an oversized $59 price-tag as well—is this monster of an action figure worth adding to your collection?
Quite a few fans were miffed when the GamerVerse Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2 lineup was revealed without a Build-A-Figure, but now that we’ve seen the size and detail of Spidey’s iconic alien adversary, it’s quite clear that he could have never been budgeted in to be this big and beautiful as a pieced-out pack-in BAF.
Standing at 10.5” tall and with more overall plastic and bulk than several standard 6” Marvel Legends action figure, this new video game Venom is a real sight to behold and in legit contention for Hasbro’s best Venom figure ever. The proportions are spot-on, the sculpting work is intricate and the articulation is what you need for this kind of heavyweight brawler.
GamerVerse Venom comes with 5 accessories, and every one of them adds to the figure in a big way. The fists let him trade knockout blows with Spidey, while the tendril effect attachment gives Venom a ranged attack to change things up.
I vacillate between liking my Venim open-mouthed or closed-mouth, but we’ve got incredibly expressive portraits here to cover both bases. There’s even a removable spittle effect for that extra inch of grossness!
The ensemble photos show off just how big this Venom Legends figure is when tussling with a regular Spider-Man six inch figure, illustrating how overwhelming Venom’s size and power are. Hasbro really did well with the scale here, in my opinion.
Where some fans are going to be turned off is the price-tag on this baddie: $59.99 MSRP. That’s more than twice the cost of standard ML figures, and an insurmountable cost for a lot of casual buyers.
Given the size, 100% new tooling, accessories and sculpting detail on this symbiote, I don’t think the price is totally out of line. It’s expensive for a mass market figure for sure, but there’s also a lot “more” included here than most import figures that are even higher priced such as MAFEX and SH Figuarts. I’m on-board with Hasbro in this instance, although I don’t think they should bank on $60 6” scale figures as a regular thing that can be consistently successful.
The Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends Venom video game figure is now up for PO and scheduled to ship this summer. Venom is perennially popular, and one of just a handful of characters I could see Hasbro pre-selling out of at this price-point.
What do you think of Hasbro’s priciest Venom figure ever, Marvel collectors? Is this over-sized Venom over-priced as well, or do you think the MSRP is appropriate? And will you be adding this massive monster to your own collection?
