2014 has been an unusually heavy year for fans of movie-based Marvel Minimates, as the year has been positively crammed with Amazing Spider-Man 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men Days of Future Past and Captain America The Winter Soldier Marvel Minimates movie figures. Consequently, we’ve gotten far fewer comic book-based Marvel Minimates this year. But out of nowhere and totally unexpectedly, Diamond Select Toys has swept in with a final set of 2014 Toys R Us Exclusive Marvel Minimates Wave 19 figures–including favorites like Quicksilver, Vision and Mysterio!
But maybe Diamond Select Toys felt like the year has been a bit too movie-focused as well, because they’ve defied expectations by officially announcing a wave of comic-focused exclusive Toys R Us Marvel Minimates figures due to hit this month (yes, this month)! This wave had previously only been seen on Instagram and at the NYCC 2014 Minimates panel, so it’s great to see DST finally tell us when and where we can get our hands on it.
The TRU Exclusive Wave 19 Minimates set will contain the following two-packs:
- Marvel Minimates Marvel Now Vision & Quicksilver Figures
- Marvel Minimates Anti-Sinister Six Spider-Man & Mysterio Figures
- Marvel Minimates Space Armor Iron Man & Ronan the Accuser Figures
- Marvel Minimates Payback Wolverine & Classic Sentinel Figures
I’d be shocked if the Vision and Quicksilver set doesn’t end up being the “hot” set of this wave, as neither character gets action figures very often (Minimates or otherwise). Mysterio is also a pretty appealing figure, even though he’s packaged with a Dan Slott Spider-Man variant figure from a story that’s a couple years old.
Finally, we’ve got the Marvel Minimates Payback Wolverine and Classic Sentinel two-pack. For those not familiar with “Payback” Wolverine, this is the costume that Wolverine donned in his final ongoing series as part of Marvel NOW (I mean, before Wolverine died forever, because he’s never, ever coming back).
The Classic Sentinel Minimates is neat enough, but we just got a Minimate Sentinel in the All-New X-Men set, so I’m not overly excited about him. Even so, we can always use more army-builder Sentinel figures, so it’s tough to complain too much.
The Wave 19 Marvel Minimates two-packs are scheduled to be released in Toys R Us stores in December 2014. I’ll be checking my local Toys R Us stores a couple times a week until the figures show up, and will post an update to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page once these are spotted in stores, so keep watching the Facebook Page if any of these exclusive Minimates are on your radar.
What do you think of the final Marvel Minimates series of 2014, Marvel collectors? Are you excited to see characters like Vision, Quicksilver and Ronan, or were you hoping for characters that had never been produced before in Minimates form?
These figures aren’t much of a surprise for diehard collectors- they were unofficially revealed in September via Instagram, so we’ve been waiting awhile!
Soooooo excited for Ronan and Quicksilver! Guess I’ll have to hunt down that Scarlet Witch from last year now. 🙂
As far as I know, these sets STILL aren’t out as of February 2015. Any news?
According to Zach at Dimaond Select Toys: “These have not been spotted anywhere. I do not know what TRU’s plan is. They approved the story as posted, I assumed the release was imminent. Sorry people are looking with no results.”
