I griped an awful lot last month when Diamond Select Toys announced that they were reissued the Marvel Select Spider-Woman figure. I complained that it didn’t make sense to re-release the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman Marvel Select action figure (as that figure typically sells below its original cost on the aftermarket), when they should have reissued the more valuable Julia Carpenter Arachne Marvel Select figure. Well, it seems I was just a bit hasty, as the Marvel Select Arachne variant action figure is heading back to stores in 2014!
I missed out on picking up the original Arachne Marvel Select action figure, and I’ve been hesitant to pay the $40-$70 she’s been selling for online, so I pounced on the chance to pre-order the Marvel Select Arachne variant reissue for $22. She comes with the same Hydra Agents base as the other Marvel Select Spider-Women figures, but a way cooler costume.
There was also a SDCC Exclusive Marvel Select Spider-Woman II figure that sells regularly for $50+ online, but I don’t expect that DST will ever reissue that particular convention exclusive figure. That’s sort of a pity, as I know a lot of people adore that particular Spider-Woman costume because of its appearances in 90’s Iron Man cartoon series.
There’s hasn’t been any word on a similar reissue for the Captain Marvel Genis-Vell variant figures, but hopefully those are going to be brought back as well to complement the original Captain Marvel–the last thing comic book stores need is another glut of that Captain Marvel figure when many stores haven’t even managed to get rid of the first batch.
The Arachne Marvel Select action figure reissue is now available for pre-order, and is scheduled to ship out in February 2014. Anyone besides me out there miss out on Arachne the first time around and intend to take advantage of this second opportunity to pick her up?
I really don’t get what is supposed to be going on with the base of the figure. What the heck is happening to the hydra agents, why are they split in half and why does arachne/spider-woman look so incredibly bored by it?
Technically, Arachne wasn’t a variant, just a repaint. She was sold as part of Best of Marvel Select Series 3. Genis-Vell was a case variant, so he won’t be re-issued. The case variant for Jessica Drew wore the first-appearance cowl.
Thanks for the clarification, Zach!
Just to make sure we have it correct, is it both of the Genis Vell variants that won’t be reissued (including the green one with the unique helmeted head), or just the red/blue Genis Captain Marvel variant?
I believe both were case variants, so neither is possible under our current policy. I would think any SDCC exclusives would also fall under that policy.
