As I only became an avid collector of Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select figures last year, each month the announcement of what Marvel Select figure reissues are scheduled to come out is often just as exciting as the announcement of all-new Marvel Select figures. And in Summer 2014, Diamond Select Toys has got two great reissues lined up for us including one of the first-ever Marvel Select figures and one of the rarest exclusives in the line: the Marvel Select Elektra and What If? Captain America reissues are now up for order!

With over 100 figures (counting variants) now released in DST’s Marvel Select action figure line–and most of those figures long sold-out and no longer in stores–Marvel Select can be a pretty scary world for new collectors to come into. Luckily, Diamond Select Toys keeps the line fairly new collector-friendly by regularly reissuing figures that haven’t been available in quite some time (and sometimes those that have been).

And May 2014 will be a terrific month for aspiring Marvel Select collectors, as a pair of figures that are far from readily-available will be making their grand return!

First up, we’ve got the extremely-obscure-but-definitely-fun Marvel Select What If? Captain America Iron Man figure! This figure is a repaint of the Marvel Select Extremis Iron Man figure, and is based off an old issue of “What If?” during the the Civil War arc. The “What If” Captain America Marvel Select figure was originally a BigBadToyStore exclusive, but now it’s being brought back to a wide variety of store to give the masses another shot at it!

The Marvel Select “What If?” Captain America is the sort of figure I would never buy at current aftermarket prices (up until now packaged What If Captain America Iron Man figures were selling for $50-$60 online), but I’m more than happy to drop 22 bucks and pick this guy up!

Next up, we’ve got the third-ever figure released in the Marvel Select line from way, way back when: Elektra! This Elektra figure was first released over a decade ago, so it’s not quite as advanced articulation-wise as the modern Marvel Select figures DST puts out. Even so, the Elektra action figure still comes with an incredible assortment of stuff, including an elaborate castle tower base and a bunch of ninja weapons!

I’m not an Elektra fan (not even after that “extraordinary” Elektra movie), but if Marvel wins me over with the upcoming All-New Marvel NOW Elektra comic book, I’m glad that fresh supplies of this Elektra Marvel Select figure will be out there.

The Marvel Select Elektra and “What If?” Civil War Captain America figures are now available for pre-order, and should be available in Summer 2014. The current estimate is for July 2014, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see these re-released figures show up in June or even May 2014.
