While it doesn’t look like the figures are going to make it out before the “Iron Man 3” movie hits theaters on May 3, 2013, Diamond Select Toys finally gave us our first look at the Marvel Select Iron Man 3 figures this week! There’s four Iron Man 3 Marvel Select action figures total that will be blasting into  fans’ collections this summer, and the first two are the now fully-revealed Iron Man Mark XLII and War Machine…

Being less than a month away from the launch of “Iron Man 3” in theaters, you would think we’d have seen the Marvel Select Iron Man 3 action figures a little earlier, but it looks like Diamond Select Toys was taking their time to make that the figures were just right before releasing photos!It’s no surprise (or at least it shouldn’t be) that one of the first two figures coming out from Diamond Select Toys is the Marvel Select Iron Man Mark 42. It’s the armor that’s all over the movie’s promotional posters and materials, and the armor featured most prominently in the movie (as far as we know). The Diamond Iron Man Mark XLII won’t be as articulated as the Hasbro Marvel Legends version, but I actually think the paint and sculpting details look a lot nicer on this Marvel Select one. It’s a toss-up as to which is the better figure overall.

The other (and far more interesting) figure being released for the movie is the Iron Man 3 War Machine Marvel Select figure! It seems crazy, but thus far neither Hasbro nor Hot Toys have shown off an Iron Man 3 War Machine figure, making Diamond Select’s entry the best by default. The War Machine Iron Man 3 action figure will of course come with his trademark shoulder-mounted rocket launcher.

But that’s not all! Both these Tony Stark and James Rhodes figures will include a special, awesome base depicting Hall of Armor armor bays! Considering that the Hot Toys Hall of Armor chunks cost $100+ per bay, I’m pretty happy to get these bases for the 7.5″ Marvel Select Iron Man 3 figures packed in for free.

In the past some of the unmasked Marvel Select movie figures have been store exclusives (such as the Disney Store’s Amazing Spider-Man figure with Andrew Garfield head), but it appears that the standard Iron Man Mark XLII and War Machine Marvel Select figures will thankfully come with removable faceplates to reveal the men inside the machines.

In addition to the “Iron Man 3” Iron Man Mark 42 and War Machine Marvel Select figures, Diamond Select has two additional figures that will be released as exclusives. One is the much-adored Iron Patriot armor, and the other is currently a mystery (I hope it’s the Heartbreaker armor, personally). We should hear more about both in the near future.

Both the “Iron Man 3” Iron Man Mark XLII and War Machine Marvel Select figures are now available for pre-order for $24.99 shipped with an expected release in June 2013.
