It’s been a slow year thus far for Hasbro Marvel Universe figure collectors, but things are about to start heating up! Marvel Universe 2013 Series 1 cases have now been put up for ordering and will ship out in June 2013! While it’s always a bit puzzling when the first series of the year for a toy line ships halfway through the year, I’m thankful to get some new Marvel Universe 3 3/4″ action figures at all! New figures like Mysterio and Elektra will debut in this series, and the case assortment is a pretty good one, too…
2x Rhino
2x Captain America
2x Mysterio
2x Elektra
1x Silver Surfer
1x Iron Fist
1x Black Costume Spider-Man
1x Iron Spider-Man
As you can see, Hasbro has wisely decided to double-pack all four of the new figures included in this case: Rhino, Captain America, Mysterio, and Elektra! That means that every time a store gets a case, they’ll have two full sets of the new figures to sell. Much better than a lot of Marvel Universe cases which only contain one set of new figure along with a ton of repacks.
We don’t get Elektra figures all that often, but if this turns out like the prototype, we won’t need another Marvel Universe Elektra figure! In the old days we’d have gotten a white Elektra variant as well, but Marvel Universe is slowing down a lot in the last year. At least we’re getting a red Elektra at all. She’ll come with her trademark sais and nunchuks, of course.
Though he looks like a bit of a hardass, I actually really get a kick out of this classic Captain America Marvel Universe action figure. He reminds me a ton of the first Marvel action figure I ever owned–the Secret Wars Captain America from the 1980’s!
Finally, we get a pair of iconic Spider-Man villains: Mysterio and Rhino! There was a Rhino in an exclusive Marvel Universe comic pack last year, but it’s nice to get him packed individually. I can’t wait to pose him toe-to-toe with Marvel Universe Red Hulk! Mysterio is his usual fish bowl-headed self, and I love the intricate detailing on his forearms guards.
I do have to question Hasbro’s plans to put the old Iron Fist and Iron Spider-Man figures in this case, however. If anyone need those particular figures, I’m pretty sure they can be found in almost every Target, Walmart, and Toys R Us in America. A sudden influx of more of that pair is not exactly good news, but hopefully the re-released figures won’t end up clogging the pegs too much.
Marvel Universe 2013 Series 1 is now available for pre-order, with an estimated release in June 2013.
