Though I’m still hot on the trail of the freshly released Hasbro Marvel Universe Wave 22 set with Mysterio and Rhino, Hasbro has now let out the details regarding the next set after that! It’s filled with fan-favorite secondary characters like Cloak & Dagger, Baron Zemo and the Abomination–and it’s scheduled for release in just one month! Coming in August 2013, it’s Marvel Universe Wave 23!
2x Baron Zemo
2z Cloak & Dagger
2x Abomination
2x Black & White Iron Man
1x Captain America (Wave 22)
1x X-Force Wolverine (Repack)
1x Ghost Rider (Repack)
1x Incredible Hulk (Repack)
Now, don’t jump for joy just yet about Hasbro giving us an amazing deal with both Cloak & Dagger on the same single-card for the price of one figure. That’s certainly the way that the solicitation details make it sound, but I’ve collected Hasbro 3.75″ figures long enough to know that two full-size figures for the price of one doesn’t happen–ever.
The Marvel Universe Cloak & Dagger figures have all the makings of an “either/or variant” in the style of recent Marvel Legends variants sharing card art like “Marvel’s Madames” Madame Masque and Madame Hydra, “Marvel Knights” Blade and Punisher, and so forth. If that is what’s going on here, I sincerely hope that each of the Marvel Universe Cloak and Dagger figures are one per case in every single case. I do not want any tomfoolery like what Hasbro’s been doing with the non-existent Marvel Legends variants of Dani Moonstar, Iron Fist and the Sentry (among others) since last year.
While there wasn’t any mention in the case solicitation of the previously seen A-Bomb variant figure, we can safely assume that Rick Jones’ gamma-charged alter-ego will still be inserted into some cases in place of the plain old Emil Blonsky Abomination Marvel Universe figure. (Also, am I the only person freaked out that this particular iteration of the Abomination doesn’t wear pants?)
The rest of this wave is either dull or fairly cool, depending on your point of view. There’s a slight redeco to the Marvel Universe Baron Zemo from last year’s San Diego Comic Con 2012 exclusive Marvel universe set, which is good for people like me who didn’t want Radioactive Man or Tigershark (sorry, Tigershark fans), but boring for people who already have that Baron Zemo action figure.
There’s also a black and silver Iron Man that I honestly can’t place–it’s not the black and gold Marvel NOW! Iron Man, so I legitimately plain don’t know what Iron Man armor this is meant to represent. Help me out, readers?
The Marvel Universe 2013 Series 2 (Wave 23) set of action figures including the new Baron Zemo, Abomination and/or A-Bomb, Cloak and/or Dagger and Black and Silver Iron Man figures will be released by Hasbro in August 2013. You can pre-order the wave in sets of 4 or as entire cases of 12 at BigBadToyStore now.
What do you think about this wave of Marvel Universe figures, Marvel fans? Are you excited for some long-overdue figures like The Abomination and Cloak & Dagger, or are you irritated to see redecos of Marvel Universe Baron Zemo and Iron Man taking up coveted spots in the lineup? Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts!
That is Mark 38. War Machine now wears it as an alternate profile. Its composed of A.I.M., Hydra, and Stark technology.
