Yesterday I talked about the Toys R Us Exclusive Avengers: Age of Ultron 3 3/4″ two-packs, which contain the only super-articulated Hasbro Marvel Universe-scale AOU figures. But those aren’t the only notable exclusives new to Toys R Us shelves! They’ve also got exclusive dibs on what I expect to be the hottest of all the Avengers Age of Ultron Minimates sets–the Marvel Minimates Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch figures!
But while we wait for Hasbro and Hot Toys to eventually get around to releasing super-articulated, movie-accurate Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver figures, Diamond Select Toys has released a Minimates two-pack of the oft-ignored twins to tide us over!
I was really excited to get another movie Scarlet Witch figure–right up until my wife commented that she looked like a 40 year-old Senator. Now I can’t get that image out of my head (and so I pass it on to all of you). I’m still happy to have the Age of Ultron Scarlet Witch Minimate, but like most Minimates women, she’s not exactly a looker.
I’m also super-disappointed that the set doesn’t include any energy effects add-ons of any kind for the Minimates Scarlet Witch action figure. Diamond Select Toys is usually extremely generous with the number of accessories that their Minimates two-packs come with, so it’s definitely a surprise that Wanda gets a big fat zero in the accessories department.
Meanwhile, Quicksilver’s Age of Ultron costume is admittedly a bit boring. I can see why you manufacturers might have wanted to pass on a new character who looks like he’s a hobo wearing sweats.
Unlike Scarlet Witch, Pietro actually gets a really cool accessory: a “speed effects” base that he can be attached to to simulate Quicksilver using his powers and “running”. Quicksilver is a notoriously difficult character to give weapons to ordinarily, so this speed base if probably the very best add-on that DST could have come up with for him. Very nice!
My local Toys R Us is charging $8.49 for the Avengers: Age of Ultron Minimates two-packs, but the prices are also inflated as part of the “you-live-sort-of-close-to-Boston” tax, so I know other TRU stores have the sets available for fifty cents or a dollar cheaper. (And if you’re looking for Hawkeye and Ultron, remember that they were online/specialty store exclusives, so you’ll have to shop outside Toys R Us for them).
Thoughts on the Age of Ultron Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver Minimates, Marvel fans? Are you miffed that DST made these characters exclusives, happy that they’re getting a Minimates release at all, or still in denial that we’re not getting Marvel Legends Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch movie figures this year?
There has to be something between MiniMates and Hot Toys. Something to bridge the $4 apiece and $400 apiece gap. Marvel Legends’ lineup is known, so unless some exclusive box set pops up somewhere its not happening. Are there any Japanese lines that are producing movie accurate AoU figures?
