MONDO Spider-Man & Venom Animated ⅙ Figures!

Having owned a copious number of Toybiz Marvel figures as a kid in the 90s makes me exactly the demographic that MONDO is targeting with their popular Marvel 1/6 figure lines. They’ve successfully sold me a half-dozen-plus X-Men 92 figures, and now they’ve moved on to the Spider-Verse: the 1/6 MONDO Spider-Man Animated Series Spidey and Venom figures are currently up for order!

MONDO Spider-Man and Venom 2/6 Figures 90s Spider-Man Animated

I know I’m fashionably late to the party for the MONDO Spider-Man TAS line, but I figured I would hop in the pool before the bus could entirely leave me behind. After first revealing them nearly a year ago, the MONDO Spider-Man and Venom 12-inch-scale figures finally swung in for order last month, including limited exclusive versions of both with more accessories at higher prices (which each sold out within a day).

In essence, these premium toys feel like upsized, better-sculpted versions of the classic Toybiz action figures, but with somewhat more articulation ND at a much higher price-point of $200+.

MONDO Spider-Man TAS Spidey 12 Inch FigureI’m really of mixed minds about these MONDO premium figures. On the one hand, they are really wonderful representations of the characters as these appeared in 90s Spider-Man TAS. These genuinely do look like our childhood cartoon characters, accurately brought to plastic life.

MONDO Spider-Man Venom 1/6 Scale Figure

On the other hand, these figures are quite expensive for their quality and number of joints. These MONDO Spidey figures are scaled relatively closely the defunct 12” Marvel Legends line, but at more than quadruple the price.

MONDO Eddie Brock Head on Venom Spider-Man TAS Figure BodyWhile they’re worlds more poseable than the vintage Toybiz figures, the articulation is definitely a step behind modern super-articulated standards, with popular missing points of articulation such as butterfly swivel shoulders and hinged toes.

90s Spider-Man Animated MONDO 12 Inch Action FigureOn the bright side, MONDO is definitively starting with the two characters that will sell best in the line (alongside an upcoming Symbiote Spider-Man as well). For a lot of collectors, Spider-Man and Venom may be all they need to feel their collection is complete for this series.

Venom MONDO One Sixth Animated Series FigureMONDO Venom is my preferred figure out of this opening duo. I think he looks really nice on the bulkier body, and the red/blue “cel-shading” details look better than I would have expected.

MONDO Exclusive Venom 1/6 Figure Limited Bonus AccessoriesThe accessories loadout of 3 heads, a double-digit number of interchangeable hands and various webbing is really all the extras I need. The tongue-out and tongue-free heads were essential inclusions, and I’m glad an Eddie Brock head is included for those who will display him that way.

Venom MONDO Animated Series Figure Holding Spider-Man MaskThis is a cool, albeit expensive, 13” Venom action figure. The sold out MONDO exclusive release came with a slime tongue head and a “transforming” Eddie Brock head for 10 bucks more, which I think were appropriate niche extras that not everyone will feel they need.

Spider-Man TAS 90s Cartoon MONDO Action FigureMONDO Spider-Man is a mite cheaper, but also smaller and less exciting. I feel like the basic articulation scheme hurts Spidey more than Venom, as you tend to expect more flexible, acrobatic poses from Spider-Man.

MONDO Spider-Man Interchangeable Peter Parker HeadThe most important accessory here is the Peter Parker head, which is present and accounted for and looks spot-on. There’s also a removed mask, six pairs of hands, a camera and webbing packed in.

Spider-Man MONDO Limited Edition Exclusive Figure AccessoriesThe bonuses the MONDO Exclusive Limited Edition came with are pretty lame, so I don’t think fans who skipped that pricier release will feel too left out.

Mondo Spider-Man Animated Series 12" Figure

The MONDO Spider-Man and Venom 1/6 figures are currently up for pre-order and are scheduled to ship out quickly before the end of 2024. What do you think of these 1/6 figures, Spidey fans? Is MONDO impressing you enough with these to earn your $200+ per figure?
