It’s not exaggeration to say that Sideshow Collectibles put thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of Marvel Premium Format Figures up for order in 2014. But of all the Marvel statues Sideshow solicited last year, there’s one that I’ve been anticipating the arrival of more than other. And though there are still some available for order, he’s finally arrived: the Sideshow Red Hulk Premium Format Figure statue has now been released!
Though the revelation that General Thunderbolt Ross was the Red Hulk left me cold, I loved the early days of Red Hulk where he could easily bash the skulls in of Thor, Iron Man and the Watcher. So when I saw the gigantic masterpiece that was the Premium Format Figure Red Hulk last March, I figured I could subsist off boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese for a few months and budget him in.
My own ‘Rulk’ Premium Format statue is scheduled to arrive at the end of this week, but many collectors have already received theirs and are beaming with praise for the piece. Big thanks to Rulk and Dr. Banner for giving me permission to run their photos of the Sideshow Red Hulk statue with this article!
From the bottom of his base to the tip of his hair, the the Red Hulk PF statue is 20″ tall! When you take into account that Rulk is posed slightly bent over, you get an idea of how large and intimidating this beast of a statue really is!
The Premium Format Red Hulk towers over the Sideshow Rhino Comiquette statue, but is perfectly sized to complement the original Sideshow Hulk Premium Format Figure.
And despite his awe-inspiring bulk and size, this new Red Hulk Sideshow statue weighs a (comparatively) light 18 pounds! This is thanks to Sideshow’s wise decision to leave some of Red Hulk’s body parts (such as his legs) hollow, thus saving many of us from collapsed detolfs and warped shelving units. Thanks, Sideshow!
The one aspect of this Sideshow Red Hulk Premium Format Figure that I really don’t like is the readily visible seam on his neck, but I really don’t see any way that Sideshow could have avoided this problem without forgoing the extra head concept entirely. And speaking of the extra head…
The sold-out exclusive version of this statue comes with an alternate Red Hulk head with the ‘X’ on his forehead from his fight with Thor, and while it’s nice to have the display option, I’m planning on mostly displaying Premium Red Hulk with his regular head with sinister, psychotic smile most of the time instead.
The Sideshow Collectibles Premium Format Red Hulk statue is still available to order as of writing, although I suspect this piece will sell out long before it gets discounted due to the low edition size of 1000. Red Hulk is a lot more of a niche character than green Hulk is, and if you’re a Rulk fan, I highly recommend getting this statue while you can–I really don’t expect another Red Hulk statue of this size and quality to ever be released again.
Did any of you order and receive your Red Hulk Premium Format Figure already, Marvel collectors? If so, what do you think of the biggest (and most expensive) Red Hulk statue ever made?
