It may be hard for younger comic book fans to imagine, but ROM SpaceKnight was all the rage in the 80s, even crossing over numerous times to interact with the X-Men and Avengers. And now he can officially cross over on collectors’ action figure shelves! Defying the odds, Hasbro’s Marvel Legends ROM figure is now available! Is this unexpected addition to the line a great one? Here’s my review…

I’m not sure we’ve ever gotten a Marvel Legends action figure of a character that’s not even partially owned by Marvel, but apparently there is a first time for everything. Following the new printing of the Rom omnibus last year, everyone’s favorite Galadorian is back and flying onto store shelves as part of the 2025 Marvel Legends Mini Comics wave!

And Hasbro clearly wasn’t about to cut corners on this long-demanded 6” figure of the space knight they fully own, making this figure a real stand out amongst the Marvel 2025 lineup thus far.

This figure is part of the wave of 6” Marvel Legends that each come with a little plastic “comic book” they can hold (Which is just cover art printed on a rectangular plastic chunk). At a $27-ish MSRP, I was skeptical of this Build-A-Figure-less series, but I was pleasantly impressed with the 90s Adam Warlock and classic Banshee figures I reviewed earlier this month. ROM is thankfully just as good, if not better, than both those figures.

The first thing you’ll notice about this ROM Legends figure is that Hasbro gave him a gorgeous silver finish, painting the entire figure and making it look beautiful. I’ve seen a few gripes about minuscule paint blips, but mine looks absolutely perfect (at least, to my half-blind eyes). The silver looks suitably metallic, and the color really pops in basically any environment you have ROM in.

The sculpt is also a standout, and there’s no mistaking this robotic silhouette at a glance for almost any other character. Hasbro invested a lot of expenses into developing this release, and it shows.

ROM comes with a whopping six accessories: the aforementioned “mini comic” rectangle, an alternate fist and gripping hand, an energy effect and two different gun-like devices— ROM’s Neutralizer and ROM’s Energy Analyzer.

Both of the latter two items have unique sculpts and can have the energy effect attached to them, although I’m not convinced the red connection points on the Energy Analyzer are quite accurate. Both signature devices fit comfortably into ROM’s gripping hands and are a lot of fun posing with.

I don’t think a second energy effect would make sense, since the two items are very different and shouldn’t logically have the same-looking effect.

The “mini comic” is pretty dopey, but ROM looks fun and comical holding it and staring with his big red robotic eyes.

ROM’s palandanium-armored back is hardly boring, as it has ROM’s backpack permanently affixed (along with the backpack rockets that allow his crucial flight capabilities).
Marvel Legends ROM’s tall stature is loaded up with all the super-articulation we’ve come to know and love, including:

–Ball Jointed Head, Upper Torso and Hips
–Ball-Hinge Shoulders
–Swivel-Hinge Wrists
–Ab Crunch
–Double-Hinged Knees and Shoulders
–Swivel Biceps and Thighs
–Hinged Feet with Rockers

All of the articulation incorporated works very well for the most part, although it’s unfortunate that ROM’s character design inhibits the range of motion of the head and shoulders somewhat. The other joints all move smoothly and stably to where I want them, with the ball-jointed upper torso being especially nice.

Overall: once again I had high standards for how good a figure in this Marvel Legends Mini Comics Series should be—and once again, Hasbro exceeded them. Hasbro went all out to make sure this figure of their own property is a great one. The paint finish, accessories, sculpt and proportions are all winners here—and so are we. If you’re a ROM fan, you owe it to yourself to pick up this outstanding toy of the character. Marvel Legends ROM is another early contender for Hasbro’s best figure of the year.
