When Kaiyodo showed off the final painted prototype of their Amazing Yamaguchi Revoltech Magneto figure at the 2017 Wonder Festival Summer event last weekend, I knew we’d be seeing him up for sale sooner than later. And sure enough, a Master of Magnetism arrives precisely when he means to (you’re a total nerd like me if you get the joke)–the Kaiyodo Revoltech Magneto figure is now up for order!
Who I didn’t think of is the elderly, non-ninja mutant mastermind himself: Magneto. But after seeing the multitude of cool poses that Kaiyodo came up with to display Erik Lensherr in, I’m looking at this super-articulated action figure in a whole new–and very favorable–light….
Pretty much every feature and dynamic pose that you’ve seen Magneto bust into in the comics (or even the Marvel vs. Capcom video game series) can be readily achieved by this Magneto Revoltech figure. From hovering in the air to punching down to posturing dramatically, this is one super-articulated Master of Magnetism who can do it all.
And by “do it all”, I even mean “simulate his actual power set”, as the figure comes with functional magnetic effects pieces that really work! I loved this play feature on my 90s Toybiz X-Men Series 1 Magneto figure as a kid, so seeing the gimmick return is a real joy.
The effects pieces are the true highlight of this figure for me, but the flight stand is another big selling point–especially when combined with the Revoltech Magneto’s articulated cape. I’ve heard some naysayers about the cape, but I love it and really feel like it adds a ton of potential to this figure, really bringing it to life.
Just like in many comics and cartoons over the years, you can even roll back Magnus’ eyeballs to show off his crazed, pupil-less all-white eyes! I’m curious about how this mechanism works, but there’s no doubt it adds another layer of fun to this Revoltech figure.
The Kaiyodo Magneto Revoltech figure is now available for order, and is scheduled to be released in November 2017. Kaiyodo doesn’t have a license to distribute these Marvel Amazing Yamaguchi figures in the U.S. themselves, so you’ll either need to import from overseas yourself or buy from a U.S. import store like Woozy Moo or BBTS. He runs 5,900 Japanese yen overseas plus shipping, or about $75 from domestic import shops.
Now that we’ve had a chance to see the full range of just what this Amazing Yamaguchi Magneto can do, what do you think, Marvel collectors? Does this surpass Hasbro and Toybiz’s efforts to become the best 6″ Magneto figure ever, and are you planning on picking one up?
I’m loving the Marvel vs Capcom-style vibe here.
Just preordered, giggedy!!!
