Now we come to what I expect to be the final Marvel Minimates SDCC 2013 Exclusive to be announced, and it’s a big one: the Marvel Minimates Iron Man 3 Hall of Armors 10-Pack coming from retailer Action Figure Express! On paper, this sounds like it has the potential to be one of the coolest Marvel San Diego Comic-Con 2013 exclusives. In execution, well… not so much.

Is there anyone out there who likes Marvel Minimates and wouldn’t like a 10-pack of some of the 35 new Iron Man armors that we saw in the Iron Man 3 film…? I didn’t think so. So when I read that Diamond Select Toys was releasing a Marvel Minimates Iron Man Hall of Armor 10 pack for San Diego Comic Con, visions of the Iron Man Nightclub armor and Sneaky armor and Nightclub armor and Gemini armor danced in my head. Unfortunately, none of those armors are here.

In fact, none of the 32 Iron Man armors seen in the movies but not yet produced as Minimates are in this set. Instead, what we have here is basically a compilation set of all the major Iron Man armors worn in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and The Avengers movies. Think of it as a sort of “Best of” set.

I know that many of the armors seen in Iron Man 3 are just too specialized for Diamond Select Toys (Art Asylum) to create all-new figures for as a convention exclusive set, but I feel like this particular set is pretty unimaginative and lacking. I have several of the Iron Man armors from the movies, and I don’t feel like buying the same ones again just for some minor changes. It’s nice to see the Pepper Minimate again–she isn’t in any Iron Man 3 Minimates pack–but that’s about all there is to get excited about in this set.

If you haven’t been collecting any of the Iron Man Minimates before and you want a set of just the main eight Iron Man armors from the Iron Man movies–plus Tony Stark and Pepper Potts Minimates–then this is probably the set for you. For the rest of us, there’s really nothing to see here–keep on walking.

Diamond Select Toys could have probably still won me over and gotten my money if they’d devised some elaborate Hall of Armors packaging for the set that looked really amazing, but instead the set’s box is bare-bones and plain. This whole set is basically just a value pack of slightly-tweaked previously released figures, and it really shows.

The Marvel Minimates Iron Man 3 Hall of Armors 10-Pack box set will be released at SDCC 2013 from July 18-21, 2013 with a price of $54.99. Online orders for collectors not attending San Diego Comic-Con are also available, and will ship out after the convention.
