Just because we’re only three weeks away from San Diego Comic Con 2014 doesn’t mean that every company has played all its cards already as far as Marvel SDCC 2014 exclusives go! Today, Kotobukiya revealed a third exclusive statue that I had a feeling was in the works–the SDCC 2014 Kotobukiya Gray Hulk ARTFX+ statue has now been revealed!
Doubtless some folks will think I’m lying, but I swear I had a precognitive sixth sense tell me that this Grey Hulk Kotobukiya Avengers statue was on the way. (Okay, actually, it was more like deductive reasoning–Kotobukiya mentioned last month that the red Iron Man ARTFX+ was the “first” variant in the line, so I reasoned out that an ARTFX+ Gray Hulk was the only other easy variant possible that made sense.)
The original ARTFX Hulk statue was only loosely inspired by Marvel Now to begin with, as it was lacking Indestructible Hulk’s trademark armor, so I’m not too bothered by this non-canonical Kotobukiya Grey Hulk ARTFX statue being included in the line.
Grey Hulk is one of my least-favorite iterations of the Hulk (no offense to Peter David’s great work with the character), but I do think the Kotobukiya ARTFX+ Grey Hulk statue looks quite nice, and it’s easier to see the details of the sculpt on the grey skin than it is on the dark green of the regular version.
Now that we’ve seen Grey Hulk, with the exception of a possible repaint of the Black Widow ARTFX+ into a Yelena Bolova variant, I really can’t think of any other possible variants Kotobukiya can do with the existing sculpts for the Avengers ARTFX+ line (other than possibly some metallic Iron Man variants or something of the like).
The Kotobukiya Avengers Grey Hulk ARTFX+ statue is limited to just 2,000 pieces produced and will be available exclusively at Treasure Island Sports’ Booth #5030 at San Diego Comic Con 2014 later this month. I’ll post an update to the Marvel Toy News Facebook page if any leftovers from the event are put up for sale online.
What are your opinions on the SDCC 2014 exclusive Grey Hulk Kotobukiya statue, Marvel collectors? Is this limited edition Grey Hulk ARTFX+ a must for your Avengers Kotobukiya collection, or do you feel that this non-Marvel Now Hulk something you feel comfortable skipping?
