While Kotobukiya didn’t manage to pack quite as many new Marvel statue reveals into their SDCC 2017 booth as they have in some years, they did throw us a bone in the form of concept art for five upcoming Marvel statues! If you loved the ARTFX+ Avengers, Spider-Man and X-Men series, get ready: the Kotobukiya ARTFX+ Defenders statues series has now been announced! Plus: Carol Danvers returns for a new Bishoujo Captain Marvel!
And that’s why I don’t think too many fans will begrudge Koto for revisiting an old friend with their next Marvel Bishoujo statue coming in 2018: a Carol Danvers Captain Marvel statue!
See, while we’ve already had multiple Bishoujos of Carol in the past, they were of her other identities such as Ms. Marvel and Binary. But those are the past–and now Koto is looking to the present… and the future!
And so, with less than two years remaining until Captain Marvel Carol Danvers becomes the most well-known Marvel female character in the world, now seems like a better time than any other to unleash the first Carol Danvers Bishoujo in years!
While Kotobukiya didn’t have a prototype to show off yet (I’m sure we’ll see that at NYCC 2017 in October), we did get our first look at the illustration concept art for Carol–and man, I gotta say, it’s looking pretty great!
- Daredevil
- Jessica Jones
- Luke Cage
- Iron Fist
While the Marvel ARTFX+ series tend to be 6-7 figures, I suspect no more characters will be added to this line (seeing as how this is the complete core lineup of both the Netflix Defenders and the new Defenders comic book team). I’ve been a big fan of the modestly-priced ARTFX+ figure series, so I’ll be looking forward to seeing prototypes of these figures revealed as the year goes on.
The Kotobukiya Captain Marvel Bishoujo and ARTFX+ Defenders statues will be available for order online starting this fall, with Captain Marvel scheduled to be released in May 2018 and the Defenders arriving throughout 2018.
I’ll post continuing updates about these figures through their development as Koto reveals early and final prototypes, so stay tuned if any of these are of special interest to you.
How do you like this quintet of conceptual artwork reveals, Marvel collectors? Do any of these new pieces have you anticipating adding to your Kotobukiya collection in 2018, or is this round of reveals a swing and a miss for you?
The Captain Marvel Bishoujo looks great and I’ll put money on it coming with an interchangeable masked head with the mohawk. If it does come with the extra head it’ll be a definite buy for me as I prefer the Bishoujo in their masked iterations to the anime style faces.
