Hasbro didn’t exactly come out with guns blazing and the massive tidal wave of all-new Marvel Legends figure reveals at SDCC 2022 that many fans were hoping for, but they -did- announce a number of pretty great items—including refreshed versions of two of the more sought-after 6” ML of the past half-decade: exclusive Retro X-Men Marvel Legends Beast and Retro Spider-Man Marvel Legends Scorpion figures are now up for order!

At the Hasbro Marvel Legends team’s panel on the Friday of San Diego Comic Con 2022, the team was quick to praise the success of the Marvel Legends Retro Series and note that it’s among their favorite lineups as well.
The 2022 Spider-Man Retro Series has been one of the best-sellers of the year, so the team decided to celebrate by expanding the line just a bit more with two new exclusives going up for order this summer and arriving in the fall.
First up is a repainted Spider-Man Legends Scorpion Retro figure, a revolted version of the one from the 2019 Molten Man series with the Spider-Man Far From Home movie figures.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the dark metallic green paint used on the comics-styled Scorpion in that wave, but I always knew it was an inevitability that we’d see the bright green styled Animated Series Scorpion someday. And now, someday has finally come—and Retro Scorpion looks as good as I hoped!
Also back from 2019 is the blue Beast from the X-Men Caliban Series! Despite a grey repaint previously being available in the Vintage packaged style, demand for Jim Lee 90s Beast in his iconic blue fur has simply never been met.
My one design gripe with that Caliban Series Beast figure was the lack of a less feral head for the figure. Hasbro remedies that here by including the more thoughtful and stoic portrait I always wanted—Along with clear eyeglasses, flasks of chemicals and even a soft goods fabric lab coat. This figure has “top seller” written all over it!
The Marvel Legends Retro Beast and Scorpion figures are both exclusive via the usual “Fan Channels” (EE, BBTS, GameStop, etc.) and also through Amazon. Amazon seems to sell out of these types of exclusives more swiftly than other retailers, so if you want Hank or Mac from there, you might not want to wait too long to get those locked in.
Do either of these two need Toybiz-inspired Vintage-packaged action figures strike a “must buy” chord for you, Marvel collectors? What remaining Spidey and X-Men characters do you still want to see get the Retro treatment?
The Spot. He should come with black velcro discs that you can stick all around him. I said that as a joke, but now I’m thinking I would totally buy that.
The Scorpion is likely a good buy for anyone who missed out on the other version from a few years ago, but I don’t need a second version. Beast? Haven’t we had enough Beast? If we have to pick a retro X-Men, how about a retro Angel (yes, I know the wings would make him spendy) or Betsy Braddock (Mutant Massacre era).
Both easy passes for me. Happy with my Molten Man BAF Scorpion and Caliban BAF wave Beast. But both of these figures would have been purchases had I missed their previous iterations.
Nope.
That new Beast head looks great, but because they know it’s the look everyone’s been asking for, Hasbro arbitrarily decided to jack the price up by another $9. Remember this is a complete reuse mold, plus a cheapo soft goods coat. They are scalping their own products and we should not be supporting this practice.
