At this point in late summer, merchandisers are firmly going all-in with Thor Ragnarok toys and pretty much every toy coming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming has gone up for sale. But it looks like there was at least one major holdout, as Bandai Japan had two more Spider-Man Homecoming figures waiting in the wings: the SH Figuarts Homemade Suit Spider-Man and Iron Man Mark 47 figures are now up for order!
And so, though Hasbro released their own versions of Homecoming Iron Man Mark XLVII and Homemade Suit Spider-Man a few months back, some collectors have been holding off and hoping the S.H. Figuarts versions of those characters would actually be released.
And patience for those fans has paid off–the remaining Spider-Man Homecoming Figuarts are officially on the way!
First up, we’ve got the Bandai Homemade Suit Spider-Man Figuarts figure. I actually thought Hasbro’s version of this character design was quite nice, but there’s no denying that Bandai’s looks better (though it’s at the cost of a much higher cost).
The colors look a bit more on-model on the S.H. Figuarts version of Homemade Suit Spider-Man, and it looks like his lowered hood will hold in place (even upside-down!) to allow for more dynamic poses. The webline accessory, interchangeable hands and figure stand add to the fun. This is a pretty great release all-around.
Now, as pretty much everyone expected, there’s also (of course) an SH Figuarts Iron Man Mark 47 figure in his Homecoming armor. As this armor is a recolor of the Civil War Mark 46 armor, that should surprise absolutely no one.
But what I think will actually surprise some folks who haven’t been paying attention is the fact that this Mark 47 Iron Man Figuarts figure is only available in an exclusive two-pack with Homemade Suit Spider-Man.
Just like Funko and Hasbro and Diamond Select Toys before them, for licensing reasons, Bandai Japan is limited to releasing this particular Iron Man in a two-pack with Homemade Costume Spidey. I know this is going to annoy some folks, but it’s really outside of Bandai’s control.
Whereas the Hasbro Marvel Legends Homecoming Iron Man figure’s articulation is limited and the paint is a bit dull, the S.H. Figuarts iteration blows it out of the water. The super-articulation and premium shiny paint on the figure make it well-worth the effort to track down and the extra bucks the Bandai version costs, in my opinion.
The S.H. Figuarts Homemade Suit Spider-Man with Wall diorama went up for sale in the U.S. on Friday, and the two-pack is currently available for Asian residents only via the Bandai Premium Web Store. These aren’t mass-release figures overseas, and thus won’t be available from the usual stores like HLJ or Amiami, so that two-pack may be a bit tougher to obtain than usual.
What do you think of these late-bloomer S.H. Figuarts Spider-Man Homecoming figures, Marvel collectors? Is this too little too late, or are these figures big enough upgrades to make you trade up your Marvel Legends versions?
I preorder the Homemade costume. This will be my first SH Figuarts, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
I’ve never been disappointed with the quality of an SH Figuarts Marvel figure yet. You’re gonna love it.
I only wish the Spider-Man had interchangable lenses, but otherwise I love it
Homemade costume is ugly no matter what. The Iron man repaint looks great though.
