I am not ashamed to admit that I’ve got a bit of a thing for She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters is pretty much the perfect woman: brilliant, independent, witty, capable and powerful. Heck, “Shulkie” is one of my nicknames for my wife (who, coincidentally, is also named Jennifer). So whenever a company announces a new She-Hulk collectible? I take notice. And although it’s been years since the last time a high-end statue of the character went up for sale, she’s finally back on the case: the Sideshow Exclusive She-Hulk Adi Granov Series Statue is now up for order!
While I have the Bowen Designs She-Hulk Statue—and also the little Kotobukiya Bishoujo—there’s never been a larger scale version that I’ve liked enough to want myself. Despite the big bucks the Sideshow Premium Format Figure sells for, it just never connected with me.
But my attention was captured by the teaser Sideshow posted the week of NYCC 2018. And once I saw their Adi Granov Series She-Hulk Statue in-person? They had my dollars captured as well.
First thing’s first: the classic head displayed at New York Comic Con with big, wavy/curly hair? That’s the Exclusive Edition bonus interchangeable head. That head is a must for me, and makes this a genuine “EX or Bust” piece (at least for me, personally).
The regular edition head (which also comes with the Exclusive version, of course) comes with straight hair that, while still comic-accurate, makes Jen look a bit too much like a green Mary Jane Watson Parker for my taste. It’s still a very nice and attractive head, but I think most classic fans are going to be all about that EX head.
The 17.5” statue is posed perfectly for the character: flexing a bicep with her right arm while displaying her strength with her right arm (which is gripping a taxi cab door she’s ripped off). The advertisement for Jennifer Walters’ attorney-at-law on the taxi door is a clever and super-fun detail that really jives with me.
Despite the fact that there’s a lot going on on the base, it doesn’t feel overwhelming at all to me: all of the elements come together in a tidy bow that sets the New York City theme nicely. The dent in the taxi door, the age and wear-and-tear on the fire hydrant, the colors on the pepperoni pizza slice… this is masterfully chosen and executed.
I know some folks are rolling their eyes at the rat eating a slice of Brooklyn pizza on the base, but that fuzzy little critter puts a big smile on my face. This is the sort of quirky, comedic idea that feels right at home as part of a She-Hulk piece.
I didn’t order the Adi Granov Iron Man Statue from this summer, but I’m hoping for some really cool Avengers follow-ups to this Shulk that can complement her as the next additions to the line. I’d love a new 1:5 Vision, Hercules, Hawkeye or even Ms. Marvel.
The Sideshow Adi Granov She-Hulk Exclusive Statue is now up for PO, and is scheduled to be released in fall 2019. There hasn’t been a major She-Hulk resin statue released in North America in years, and the ones that have been previously are all expensive pieces on the aftermarket, so I think this may be a rare instance where the Sideshow EX sells out well before shipping.
Regardless, I already placed my order—gotta have that classic head! What about you, Shulkie lovers? Does this new take on Jennifer Walter quench your thirst for a new She-Hulk statue, or is the scale, design, or some other factor turning you off from this piece? And what Avengers would you like to see get this 1:5 scale treatment next (if any)?
