The Rule of Three is a writing principle that states that things that come in threes are inherently better than individuals or pairs of things. That rule must be what Sideshow Collectibles had in mind when they decided to go ahead with not one, not two, but three new Hulk Premium Format Figures in 2014! We’ve had the Sideshow Premium Format Red Hulk and Green Hulk statues go up for sale in the past two months, but if those weren’t for you, perhaps the third time will be the charm–the Sideshow exclusive Grey Hulk Premium Format statue is now up for order!
In the first-ever appearance of the Incredible Hulk, Hulk wasn’t green–he was grey. Yes, I know that’s going to blow some folks’ minds, but it is true. Hulk would later on have some classic eras where he was grey-skinned, but it was in the very first Hulk comic book that Grey Hulk made his grand debut.
I’d be lying (terribly) if I said that Grey Hulk was my favorite iteration of the Hulk (in fact, it might be my least favorite), but there’s definitely enough history and fan demand to warrant a Gray Hulk Premium Format Figure (though I do expect this variant to be the least-ordered and lowest-produced of the Sideshow Hulk trio).
Like I said, I’m not a mega fan of Gray Hulk, but I think the Sideshow Gray Hulk Premium Format Figure actually looks really nice. The soft goods blue jeans and elephant-like grey skin tones on the Hulk just look fantastic together. I think this is one case where soft goods (which I often loathe) really enhance the piece and make it pop.
As expected, the Sideshow Collectibles Grey Hulk Premium Format Figure shares the exact same base as the other two Hulk Premium Format Figures. The debris base serves its purpose and looks fine, but it’s nothing to get really amped up about.
Some of you may be wondering when the Hulk shared my sense of fashion, and the answer is of course in the classic The Incredible Hulk #1 comic book, wherein the Hulk debuted with grey skin and an orange shirt. I think Hulk makes quite a daring fashion statement decked out in bright orange!
As the orange shirt Hulk is a legendary part of comic book history, I think it’s a terrific choice for Sideshow to make the exclusive item for the Grey Hulk Premium Format Figure.
The Sideshow Premium Format Grey Hulk statue will go up for sale on the afternoon of Thursday, May 29th. I’ll post an update here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page once the Grey Hulk Premium Format Figure is available for pre-orders. As is almost always the case with Sideshow Exclusive Edition Premium Format Figures, expect the Sideshow exclusive Grey Hulk to sell out via pre-orders long before the piece actually ships in the winter.
How about it, Hulk fans? Is anyone planning to pick up the entire triumvirate of Sideshow Collectibles Hulk Premium Format Figures? Any fans out there who only want the Premium Format Grey Hulk?
I am confused, this entire post states it is a premium format figure until the very end where it states that it is a statue.
Sideshow calls their non-maquette 1/4 scale statues “Premium Format Figures”. It is a statue, but it’s technically a “Premium Format Figure”.
