While Sideshow Collectibles posted teaser photos online of most of their new products making their public debuts on display at New York Comic Con 2018, they kept one nice surprise under wraps to be revealed at the show: a Magneto 1/6 figure! As a character Hot Toys never has and perhaps never will do a movie 12” figure of, this caught a lot of collectors’ eyes. And now the Master of Magnetism is ready to capture their wallets as well: the Sideshow Exclusive Magneto Sixth Scale figure is now up for order!
The 12” Wolverine is among the fastest-selling and most popular releases in the comic-based line, and Sideshow hopes fans who bought Logan will be itching for an enemy for him to go toe-to-toe with: Magneto!
This 1:6 Magneto figure is actually the very first villain Sideshow Collectibles has done for the line. I think he’s an outstanding choice for that distinction, as he’s easily the most iconic Marvel villain to not yet appear in an MCU movie.
Sideshow went classic all the way with their figure, capturing Erik Lehnsherr in his instantly recognizable red and purple costume. It’s unlikely we’ll ever see Mags adorning this wacky color scheme in a movie, but for a comic book inspired figure, this is really the only way to go.
While Mezco Toyz has eschewed the purple tights for their upcoming ONE:12 Collective Magneto, Sideshow has left them intact for this version, which I fully support. If you’re gonna go classic, might as well own it. The purple undies look just the way you’d expect them to, and in fact, the tailoring on the costume overall adds just enough detail to not look like pajamas. I dig it.
I’m also excited to see the wired, poseable cape feature integrated into this piece. “Articulating” the cape gives this figure a ton more display options, and is going to make this a lot more versatile in peoples’ collections.
Speaking of versatility: along with multiple interchangeable hands, Magnus also comes standard with a major accessory I figured would be the Exclusive item: an unmasked Magneto head sculpt! The helmetless Erik Lehnsherr portrait looks on-point, and also facilitates the cool magnetic-effects hand levitating the empty helmet as a display choice.
This won’t necessarily make the Exclusive of this character “EX or bust” or anything, but the Cerebro helmet looks snazzy paired with the levitating effects hand, and is easily worth the extra five bucks to me that it adds to the cost of the Magneto Exclusive Edition.
The Sideshow Magneto EX 1/6 figure with Cerebro helmet is now up for order, and is scheduled to ship out in late summer 2018. Most of Sideshow’s comic-based sixth scale figures like Wolverine, Punisher and Ghost Rider are completely sold out now, and I would anticipate Magneto following in those footsteps what with this being the only 12” figure of the character ever made in this form.
Hands up, X-Men fans! How do you feel about the first villain in Sideshow’s Marvel sixth scale figure line? Have they nailed the bullseye with their take on Magnus, or is this not the Master of Magnetism you’re looking for?
