Despite having only been created less than 7 years ago, Miles Morales Spider-Man has quickly rocketed in notoriety and popularity to become one of the most recognizable comic characters created in the 21st century. And now, Miles is finally hitting the collectibles big-time with his first high-end quarter-scale statue: the Sideshow EXCLUSIVE Premium Format Miles Morales Statue is now up for order!
That didn’t happen. Instead, Miles Morales has risen to become one of the most popular young heroes in the Marvel Universe, with a novel already to his name and an animated movie coming up fast. And now? It’s time for his first mega-expensive high-end resin statue, care of Sideshow Collectibles!
Being a teenage boy with a fairly simplistic costume and a normal stature, I wasn’t sure how Sideshow Collectibles would approach a large Miles Morales Premium Format Figure. The answer? With a TOTALLY crazy, action-packed base!
The Miles Morales Spider-Man PF Figure is leaping over a humongous Ultimate Venom base, with the symbiote’s mouth open, ready to devour Miles.
Despite the many jokes this Ultimate Venom base is evoking (what with the long tongue and tentacles and all), I think this is a really fun and, most importantly, different type of base from the somewhat monotonous smoke and city rubble we’re used to. I dig it.
Just as Miles himself is a bit shorter than Peter Parker, his Premium Format Figure is a couple inches shorter than the traditional Spider-Man PFF. The size on this piece looks right to me visually and makes complete sense.
Miles Morales’ Spider-Man costume has less detailing on it than the classic costume does, but Sideshow did sculpt all of the web details onto the statue with raised textures. It’s not flashy, but it’s authentic and well-done.
As usual, there’s a Miles Morales Sideshow Exclusive Edition—and this one comes with extras that I think will make this piece “EX or bust” for many collectors. Along with an EX unmasked Miles Morales head, you also get an alternate swap-out left hand holding the Ultimate Spider-Man Mask.
Miles Morales appears in costume with his mask off A LOT both on covers and in actual comic books, so I think this is an option lots of fans are going to prefer.
As far as “value” goes, this price-tag is more reasonable than the ones on Deadpool and Lady Deadpool to me—although I would MUCH prefer $500 or below as the standard Premium Format Figure price-point.
The Sideshow EXCLUSIVE Miles Morales Spider-Man Statue is now up for order, and is scheduled to ship out in Q1 2019. No edition size has been set for the EX, and I’m betting it’s because Sideshow is having as hard a time deciding how big the demand for a not-Peter-Parker Spider-Man Statue will be as I am.
Overall thoughts on this Sideshow Spider-Man Miles Morales 1/4 Statue, Marvel collectors? Do you love the creativity of the symbiote base, or is it too over-the-top for your tastes? Will you be web-grabbing this statue of Miles to complement your Spider-Man Collection?
