Sideshow Collectibles has been on a hot streak lately with world-class statues coming out one after the next, including their recent Captain America, Wolverine, Magneto and more. Of course, those were all highly-hyped pieces expected to get top marks–but their latest release is more of a sleeper hit! Even though it’s only been shipping for less than a week, the Sideshow Miles Morales Premium Format Figure has already gone to Wait List and is poised to sell out! Should you get one before it does? Let’s hear some reviews and see some photos of the final statue…
Clearly there’s a lot of love for Miles Morales following the massive success of the “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” movie–but is the statue itself good enough to warrant all the hype? Well, based on the photos and impressions already floating around from those who’ve received the statue, I think that answer is a very big “Yes!”
Mile Blesic and Instagram user @madxcollector both gave me permission to run their in-hand photos of Miles with this article, and Mile also gave me his detailed thoughts and review on the piece. Thanks, guys!
The box for Miles is nothing special–it’s a plain old graphic art box with nothing especially unique about it. I like the nighttime city-scape theme, but this is really just a standard box.
For those who like having a nice reference for where everything goes in their boxes for when they have to repack their statues for whatever reason, the photo above shows where all the pieces to this go in the styrofoam packaging. I’m actually a bit surprised how many chunks this statue comes in!
Of course, what you all actually care about is the quality of the sculpture itself. So for that, I’ll turn over to Mile Blesic’s detailed thoughts…
“Just opened and I have to say I’m very impressed by this statue. When it was first shown I know how bad collector forums ripped into Miles Morales’ base looking like the Super Mario Bros. plant or the creature from Tremors, but let me tell you: it’s way better in person. The mouth is done in a resin that really gives it a life like feel. The teeth are amazing, as well as the detailed tongue . There’s one tiny seam on the symbiotic goo at the bottom, but overall it’s a badass base.”
“Miles is just fantastic. Super dynamic . His paints were clean and simple yet effective . Only complaint I had were his right hand is actually sculpted into Venom’s head so if you thought of putting him on different base think again. He wouldn’t have a right hand. The resin effects on tongue and interior of the mouth I’ve never seen done that way before and it was executed perfectly. Looks like a real inside of a monster’s mouth!”
“The fit on the left hand could have been just a little more snug that’s being picky. Overall footprint is perfect for space conscious collectors.”
“His EX head and hand are cool but it’s not a display option for me.”
“What sold me on this piece from day one is how good it looks with the Spider-Man PF. Absolute perfection this pair! It’s the perfect size for this character since he’s a teenager.“
“It is very dynamic and looks great from just about any angle. I also love that essentially its a diorama . Two characters sculpted and interacting telling a story. Not a typical base so to speak like a brick wall or rubble. It’s an actual enemy of the Spider-Man. It’s very cool!”
…And there you have it! Now that you’ve seen the in-hand photos of the final finished product, what do you think, Marvel collectors? Is this Miles Morales Spider-Man Premium Format Figure worthy of its ultra-fast sell-out, or do you think this piece is selling so quickly primarily because of the hype from Into the Spider-Verse? And hey–anyone freshly hopping onto the Wait List for Miles Morales now that they’ve seen these photos and impressions?
