Daredevil is celebrating his 60th anniversary this year, and Hasbro isn’t going to let the milestone pass without at least a little bit of representation in the 2024 Marvel Legends lineup! Just announced and going up for pre-order this week, it’s the Hasbro Pulse exclusive Spider-Man Animated Series Marvel Legends Daredevil & Hydro-Man 6″ action figures VHS 2-pack! Matt Murdock is a man without fear, but not a figure without cel-shading! Do you need one fo your shelf…?

Following the recent 60th Anniversaries of Spider-Man, the Avengers and the X-Men, now it’s Daredevil’s turn to celebrate! As of yet, there’s no other representation announced by Hasbro for the anniversary, but at least ol’ Hornhead will be getting a new-ish figure as part of the slowly but surely expanding Spider-Man Legends VHS Series.

Daredevil/Hydro-Man is the 5th release in the Marvel Legends Spider-Man TAS VHS line, following the two-packs of Symbiote Spider-Man/Carnage, Green Goblin/Mary Jane, Aunt May/Doc Ock and Peter Parker/Smythe. It’s the first pairing containing neither Peter himself nor a member of his family.

Marvel Legends Hydro Man last appeared in the Far From Home Molten Man movie series (shown above), and I think it’s fitting he get a Spider-Man Animated Legends figure since the character was arguably more significant there than in any other piece of media ever.

I think this Hydro-Man Legends figure is sadly a bit of a downgrade, though. The translucent blue used looks too light, which makes him feel more like Iceman than Hydro-Man. He was on the light side in the cartoon, but here he still looks a little-too- light for my tastes. I do think the new head looks more accurate to Morrie Bench’s animated appearance.

The foot attachments from the previous Hydro Man figure are included here, but sadly not the cool water powered arms. This is again authentic to the animation, but not terribly exciting for a toy. I’m also not thrilled with the pins in the figures’ limbs, even if they are clear–the pins are still ugly in this era of action figures.

As Daredevil isn’t translucent, he features the cel-shading paint deco that always divides collectors. Some fans love how it captures the animated look from the cartoons, but other fans hate it. Because Daredevil is frequently drawn with tons of shading in the comics, I think the deco style is more successful here than it is on some of the other Spider-Man Animated figures.

This Daredevil includes an interchangeable angry head with mouth open and teeth gritted, and I think the portrait looks very cool as an addition to the normal straight-faced head. As a whole, I think this Spider-Man TAS Daredevil looks really great, even though I’m not wild about the Hydro-Man and not sure I’ll be buying this pack myself. I also appreciate that he has a modern, pin-less body with an optimal articulation scheme.
