I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of news to come out from the NYCC 2013 Hasbro Press Event (after all, if there’s a lot of new product to show, why not have a panel at New York Comic Con itself or at least an exhibitor’s booth set up?). To my surprise, Hasbro debuted a significant number of never-seen-before Hasbro Marvel figures, including a series that just may be my favorite 6″ line of next year. Coming in Spring 2014–the Spider-Man Marvel Legends Infinite Series 6″ figures!
The Ultimate Green Goblin Marvel Legends figure is, of course, far too large to come single-carded. He’ll be released as the Marvel Spider-Man Legends Infinite Series Build-A-Figure, with his parts obtained by buying six figures from the series . The Ultimate Green Goblin is probably a great choice for the Build-A-Figure, as this is close to the basic look Green Goblin has in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series that’s very popular with kids right now (although this figure is actually based off the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book appearance of Green Goblin).
Also popular from the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, we have the Ultimate Beetle figure! I know a lot of Marvel Legends collectors (myself included) are sort of cheesed off that we’re getting this instead of a proper classic Marvel Legends Beetle figure, but even so, I think this Beetle action figure does look pretty good.
From the immensely popular “Superior Spider-Man” comic book series, we have Doctor Octopus in his Superior Spider-Man costume (which I suppose includes the possessed Peter Parker body inside the Spider-Man costume as well). This has been the main version of Spider-Man seen in the current Marvel Comics for the past year, so this is a figure that’s well-deserved (and infinitely better than some of the crazy junk Spidey variants Hasbro has come up with like “Axe Gauntlet Spider-Man”). As a Dan Slott Spider-Man fan, I’m pretty psyched for this one.
The comic book-inspired 2014 Marvel Legends Black Cat was also shown, and she is gorgeous (though I feel kind of funny about a woman in black leather and high heels coming with a whip accessory).
Marvel Legends Carnage, Ultimate Beetle, and Black Cat are all scheduled to be “swap” figures in the assortment, meaning that those three will share Ultimate Green Goblin parts with another figure (though Hasbro hasn’t revealed the exact specifics of that yet). Presumably the Boomerang figure we’ve previously seen will also be a “swap” figure. Hopefully these won’t end up like the 2012-2013 Marvel Legends variant “running changes” that have still never come out.
Rounding out the reveals, we have a pair of Marvel Legends Amazing Spider-Man 2 6″ action figures! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends looks super-articulated and super-awesome.This is the movie Spider-Man figure that I think we’ve all been waiting for.
Finally, we’ll also be getting an Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends Electro 6″ figure within this series. I’m not at all a big fan of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro redesign (I miss the doofy green and yellow spiky mask, I admit), but the translucent plastic effects on the Marvel Legends Electro figure’s head and hands do look pretty fantastic.
The Spider-Man Marvel Legends Infinite Series assortment is scheduled to be released in Spring 2014. I’ll post more information on the series as it becomes available, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have more news, photos and updates sent straight to your Facebook Newsfeed!
