2025 is coming in fast, and at last week’s year-end Marvel Legends livestream the Hasbro Marvel team showed that they’re ready to ring in the new year in a big way! Two full waves of Marvel Legends 2025 figures debuted on the stream, alongside a multitude of upcoming exclusives. First, let’s take a look at the 2025 Spider-Man Marvel Legends Retro series headlined by Kaine and Chameleon that just went up for order…

Many Agent Venom fans weren’t collecting back then to purchase the Walgreens exclusive (shown above) at retail, and might not want to buy an expensive MAFEX (or illegal bootleg of it) to add the character to their collections.
Unlike the 2014 version, we get a Flash Thompson “unmasked” head sculpt here, in addition to the advancements in sculpting and articulation that Hasbro has made in the past ten years.
I wish Agent Venom’s legs were a mite thicker and his shoulder spikes a hair more pronounced, but I think this is a terrific figure overall and a clear upgrade over the original release.
There’s not a proper 616 Peter Parker represented anywhere in this set, but we do get one of the Jackal’s original failed clones of him in the form of Kaine in his distinctive first costume. Before he was the second Scarlet Spider, Kaine was a straight up crazy villain (that snapped Doc Ock’s neck like a twig), and it’s nice seeing him get some spotlight here.
Kaine actually did get a debut 5” figure from Toybiz back in 1997 as part of their legendary Maximum Clonage box set, but this is the first 6” Marvel Legends action figure of him ever in his premiere look. The sculpted lining on the costume is welcome as an unexpected texture, and the colors look wonderfully 90s and spot-on. The tattered magenta cape completes the look.I love me some Spider-Man Clone Saga, and I’ll love owning this 6” Kaine Legends figure.
Oddly enough, the character in this wave I’m most hyped about in this Retro wave isn’t a vintage one, but a rookie character that just had his first appearance last year: Bailey Briggs, Spider-Boy! I know some fans get bristly about newly created characters in Marvel Legends, but Spidey’s recently retconned into existence sometimes-sidekick brings a big smile to my face.
Hasbro is getting much better at producing figures of teen superheroes, and between the sneaker-like footwear and bright colors, I’m really loving the look of the inaugural Marvel Legends Spider-Boy. The choice to not include “wall-crawling” hands is an odd one, but I think Hasbro is doing creator Dan Slott proud nonetheless.
Chameleon last appeared in 6” Legends form as a very hard-to-find figure in the 2015 Spider-Man Legends Rhino Series, so there’s a built-in demand for the villainous master of disguise. Even so, Hasbro didn’t phone it in with a repack or retread of the suit-and-tie wearing 2015 Chameleon, but opted for a Spider-Man Animated inspired look instead. This changes things up enough to keep things fresh and sell me a new toy of a character I might have passed on otherwise.
I’m no fan at all of Hasbro only giving us one mask for Chameleon this time (the previous version had 3 alternate heads), but I’m glad he at least comes with a couple guns and a modern body mold. I think this will be a hot seller, given how rarely Chameleon gets released in figure form.
The last villain this wave is the debut figure for the female Electro, Francine Frye. I’d be lying if I said I was a huge fan of the 2016 Electro, but it is definitely a different and modern look for a character we’ve seen done by Hasbro a couple times now.
The Electro Marvel Legends collectors are really anxious to see right now is the No Way Home Electro movie figure of Jamie Foxx, but I commend Hasbro on getting this unique iteration of Electro out in the market. The new electrical effects she comes with look killer, and it’s always nice to add a rare female Spidey villain to the shelf.
To me, the one huge disappointment of this set is the Spider-Man Unlimited figure wearing the costume from the cartoon show. We know Hasbro has skill and experience adding cel-shading to ML 6” figures, so it’s surprising that they went for such a flat look for an animation-based figure. If any action figure this year deserved to be cel-shaded, it’s this one.
In addition, I think the shade of red Hasbro picked is simply not bright enough to represent this costume as seen in the Spider-Man Unlimited cartoon. Hasbro put a lot of work and dollars into new parts for this figure, so I’m perplexed that the deco choices are so bland and uninspiring. There’s no Build-A-Figure in this wave, so this figure can at least be skipped by those who don’t love it.
The Retro Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2025 Series just went up for sale on Thursday afternoon, and should start shipping in the winter. These Retro waves tend to be quite popular and the most-wanted characters do sometimes pre-sell out, so it may be worth locking in any characters you can’t live without early.
What do you think of this Retro ML offering, Marvel Legends collectors? Which characters from this series (if any) will be swinging into your home next year?
