I can be a pretty jaded toy collector these days, what with the state of the action figure aisle paling in comparison to the days of yesteryear and once-legendary franchises like Star Wars and G.I. Joe on the rocks. Thankfully, there are still some mornings that make it all worthwhile when I can wake up, turn on my phone, and have my eyes bulge out and my jaw drop past its limits. Of all the things that I was not expecting to see while wandering around the Diamond Comics Distribution booth’s display cases at this week’s New York Toy Fair 2014, a brand-new, unannounced deluxe MAFEX action figure set would have been near the top of the list. While we learned last month than MAFEX had a brand-new Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie figure on the way for later in 2014, what we didn’t know until Toy Fair 2014 is that they were also planning on releasing a special MAFEX Amazing Spider-Man 2 DX Set with a ton of accessories. Of course, the catch is that those accessories will cost you. A lot.

Collecting the Spider-Man Marvel Legends 2014 Infinite Series has been an arduous undertaking. After hitting dozens of stores last month and failing to find even a single figure from Wave 1 (no, not even the Superior Spider-Man figures), I gave up and bought a set online. Sometimes Diamond Select Toys is very successful at keeping a secret, and sometimes they’re foiled by their own packaging materials! Though the Disney Store exclusive Marvel Select Superior Spider-Man figure was meant to be kept top-secret until Disney was ready to announce it, a photo of the figure was in the pamphlet that came with the most recent Marvel Select action figures. Diamond Select Toys confirmed last week that an Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select Figure was on the way, and this week they’ve released their first photos of the upcoming Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man 2 action figure!
