I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of news to come out from the NYCC 2013 Hasbro Press Event (after all, if there’s a lot of new product to show, why not have a panel at New York Comic Con itself or at least an exhibitor’s booth set up?). To my surprise, Hasbro debuted a significant number of never-seen-before Hasbro Marvel figures, including a series that just may be my favorite 6″ line of next year.

Ever since I posted leaked photos from the new Funko book that was out on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, I’ve been wondering when and where the elusive Peter Parker Funko POP! When Sideshow Collectibles put up the teaser images of their upcoming J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man Comiquette statue trio, I was quite certain the only one I’d be getting was Gwen Stacy. I hate Mary Jane as a rule, and I didn’t think the Spider-Man J. Scott Campbell statue would bring anything to the table I hadn’t seen before. I was so wrong, though, as the exclusive version of the J. If you’ve looked at the header for Marvel Toy News (or the Facebook cover, or the Twitter icon or the Facebook avatar), then you might have some suspicions that I have a ‘thing’ for the Scarlet Spider. And you would be absolutely right. I am a huge fan of the current Marvel Comics ongoing “Scarlet Spider” book by Christoper Yost, and as such this was my most-anticipated Marvel Legends figure of 2013 (after the raccoon). We knew going into this weekend’s D23 Expo 2013 that that first series of Disney Vinylmation Marvel figures wasn’t going to be until fall, so there were zero expectations for an early release at the convention or anything like that. But sometimes it’s nice to have the bar set low, because then you can be pleasantly surprised!
No, Disney didn’t sell the series at the show, but they did give out free promotional trading cards showing off photos of the Vinylmation Marvel Series 1 figures for the very first time!
