Of all the new companies that began producing Marvel collectibles in 2015, the one that made the single most divisive line is likely ThreeA Toys. While 3A Toys is beloved for its original creations, the radically redesigned 3A Marvel sixth scale figures have been met with a mixture of praise and disdain from Marvel fans. But criticism or no, after weeks of teases, their next re-imagined Marvel character is on the way: the ThreeA Toys Ultron figures have now been fully revealed!
3A’s Doom was a funky redesign to begin with, though, and their Ultron looks much closer to a comics-based Ultron design, so I’m trying to remain positive about this release.
While the Ultron figure will retain the immensely-ridiculed “duck feet” that Iron Man and Doctor Doom featured, he’ll have electronic features that Doom didn’t have, including light-up eyes, mouth and upper torso. Ultron will also stand 13″ (about 33.5cm) tall, so he’s a big fella! And just like the 3A Doctor Doom figure that went up for order in the fall, Ultron will be coming in three different flavors!
The first of the Ultron colorways will be a “Classic Edition” Ultron with shiny metallic paint. This will be the only 3A Toys Ultron figure that will be mass-released and available from online retailers such as EE and BBTS and such. That’s probably a good choice, as this is easily the most compelling and authentic-looking of the trio of Ultron sixth scale figures coming our way.
Next up is the “Ghost Edition” Ultron figure, which is a nice arctic white color. Based off the photos, this is the quirkiest of the three Ultrons, which also makes it my favorite and the one I’d be most prone to buying. But after the bitter disappointment of my Ghost Doctor Doom, I’ll be passing on Ghost Ultron, sadly.
This is the only Ultron whose LED lights aren’t shown in the promo photos, but I’d assume that they’ll be blue (the same as the other two versions).
Finally we’ve got the “Shadow Edition” Ultron, which is a black/dark grey colorway of Ultron. This looks pretty snazzy, and I can definitely see this being the preferred Ultron Three A Toys figure for many folks.
The blue LED lights show up really well in contrast to the the dark paint deco on Ultron, and the dark color scheme also makes the oddly-shaped feet less pronounced and jarring.
So if you have your heart set on either of the limited exclusive Ultron figures (Stealth and/or Ghost), get your wallets ready–ThreeA Toys exclusives selling out in under 24 hours is pretty commonplace, and the exclusive editions are a pain to find on the aftermarket after a figure’s release.
Having seen the official images of all three 1/6 Ultron 3A Toys figures, what do you think, Marvel collectors? Will you be adding any of these duck-footed robots to your collection, or are you holding out for more traditional Ultron offerings?
This looks amazing but man, WHATS WITH THE CLOWN SHOES?! Definitely ruins it for me. Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the 3A Dr Doom? I was just wondering cause it looked really nice, having never seen one in person.
I tried to set up a 3A Doom review with the Boss… Offered my , oh so nice Pete Parker photo skills. DENIED.
Ordered and received Doom and Stark Hangar set from Bambaland. As much as i tried i just couldnt convince my self to initiate the house party protocol… left em in the shipping box. Doom however…
i tore into that mofo inside the post office!!!
The second photo of the ghost ultron had the leds on, great figures, but still no very prone to buy them.
Judging by the price tag there NOT die-cast ? Anyone
Definitely not die-cast. The regular one just happens to be metallic.
3A figures rival Hot Toys 1/6 scales . Imo. The Doom And Stark Hangar sets from Bambaland are my favorite pieces from my Taneleer Tivan collection.
i ordered both from the source and recieved them months before BBTS and E.E. , it felt great.
3A stuff costs ridiculous amounts. For what you get, its not a great value. No play value either, they might as well be statues.
