With the “obvious” selections of ONE:12 Collective Homemade Suit Spider-Man and movie Black Panther being revealed in the buildup to New York Toy Fair 2018, I really wasn’t sure what I’d be seeing added to the Marvel ONE:12 Collective series walking into the Mezco Toyz booth at the show. As it turns out, the three comic-based figures debuted were all ones I wouldn’t have guessed: ONE:12 Collective Blade, Cable and Cyclops Figures!
But while I never would have guessed the three characters Mezco actually did choose, all three are genuinely awesome picks!
First up, we’ve got ONE:12 Collective Blade the Vampire Hunter. I’m particularly happy with this choice, as the version of Marvel Legends Blade that Hasbro gave us last year Just was not the Blade I was looking for.
The Mezco Blade is exactly how I visualize the character in my mind, however. His leather jacket looks tremendous made out of real fabric, and the add-on glasses look excellent.
While Blade isn’t exactly a top-tier Marvel character, this is certainly in the upper-echelon of figures we’ve seen from Mezco in the line so far. Love it!
Thanks to the photos in the 2018 ONE:12 Collective catalog given out at the Toy Fair Press event, we know that Blade will include a veritable treasure trove of accessories: eight interchangeable hands, an alternate head with vampire teeth bared, two pairs of sunglasses, two boomerang blades, three stakes, a shotgun, a sub-machine gun with two clips, a sword with removable sheath and the ever-popular display base with posing pole. ::Phew:: That’s a lot of stuff!
Right next to Blade in the display case at the 2018 Toy Fair was a figure I really should have anticipated, but did not—ONE:12 Collective Cable.
Given Cable’s popularity as a character and his impending theatrical debut in Deadpool 2, 2018 is set to be a big year for the Askani’son—making this the perfect time for Mezco to launch an expensive 6” figure of the character.
I would have liked to see a little bit of yellow in Cable’s costume somewhere, just because blue and yellow is my favorite color scheme for the character, but the colors Mezco went with are still perfectly appropriate.
The sculpting detail on the armor and techno-organic arm for Cable are exceptional, and all the pouches and belts on the figure are totally in-character. I’m looking forward to this figure a lot.
Cable being Cable, he needs some heavy artillery, am I right…? Yeah–I’m right. And Mezco is obliging, as the catalog photos show that Cable comes packing a handgun, knife, plasma cannon with removable cartridge, a grenade launcher, an alternate head, eight interchangeable hands and the display base with posing pole.
The last comics-based figure on display is unfortunately the one that I was the least enamored with—ONE:12 Collective Cyclops (Jim Lee costume).
I’m a gigantic fan of this 90s Cyclops costume, so I’m naturally going to be a harsher critic than some regarding the costume.
That said, I’m just not in love with this prototype for the Cyclops ONE:12 Collective figure. The black lining on his costume looks really awkward to me, and I hate that Mezco took liberties with the costume and left out the yellow trunks.
I would still be interested in this figure—the X-Men are my jam, after all—but not as enthusiastic as I would normally be for a new Jim Lee Cyclops figure… if it weren’t for one thing. Or rather, four things!
I’ve been begging Hasbro for effects like these for ages for a Cyclops figure, and while they’ve never materialized for Marvel Legends Cyclops, at least Mezco is going all-out with optic blast goodness right off the bat!
Blade is carrying a Fall 2018 release date, while ONE:12 Collective Cable and Cyclops are both scheduled for Holiday 2018. I’ll post updates here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages once each of these figures goes up for order, so stay tuned to our social media pages if you want to lock these in (and you should—ONE:12 Collective figures are regularly selling out during pre-orders these days).
I’ll jump back and talk about the MCU movie/Netflix reveals from the Mezco Toyz booth at Toy Fair later today, but for now, what do you think of the comic-based reveals from the show, Marvel collectors? Are any (or all!) of this trio on your shopping list for later on this year?
HAve you seen the catalogue pics of them? They each have some GREAT accessories, especially Cyclops
Oh! I have the catalog, but I forgot to scan the photos. I’ll add those later on today. Thanks!
any chance you could scan the DC pages as well and upload them somewhere?
I’ll upload them all tomorrow to Facebook. What DC figures in the catalog are new?
I was curious if there were any for the newly shown batman and green lantern
When I first saw Cyclops, I didn’t like it… for about one second. Then I realized it’s amazing. Especially the accessories.
