I’m edging closer and closer to having discussed every new Marvel Legends figure that Hasbro has on display at New York Toy Fair 2019, and today I’m taking a look at not one, but two, waves that are heading our way this spring! Both series still have several figures (including the BAFs) mysteriously under wraps for an obvious reason—because it’s the Avengers Endgame Marvel Legends Series 1 & 2, including Shuri, Ebony Maw and more!
I would anticipate that Disney will allow the actual Endgame movie figures to be revealed shortly after the Captain Marvel movie hits theaters next month, but for now, let’s check out the characters that already have been unveiled…
First off, we’ve got Marvel Legends 2019 Avengers Series 1, which will contain the following figures (all of which announced prior to Toy Fair):
Citizen V: The founding leader of the Thunderbolts and onetime alter-ego of Baron Zemo finally arrives in 6” form after two decades! This can serve as any version of Citizen V under the mask that you prefer, and is a terrific-looking representation of the character. I’m psyched that we’re finally getting this character, even if it’s unlikely to be a monumental sales leader for Hasbro.
Living Laser: I loved the 3.75” Marvel Universe Living Laser from a few years back (and one of the final waves ever of 3.75”), so I’m pretty tickled to see a larger and more articulated version of the supervillain coming our way. This is obviously not going to be a headliner, but it is a very unique and eye-grabbing villain to add to a display. Cool beans.
Hercules: A longtime Avenger that last got a 6” iteration in Hasbro’s first-ever ML wave, Herc is getting an upgrade here to a more modern look. I know a lot of folks think the old Hercules still holds up, but I’ve never been satisfied with that one from the Annihilus Series. I’m looking forward to this one a lot.
Nighthawk: We’ve gotten Hyperion and Speed Demon since the revival of Marvel Legends, and now the Squadron Supreme gains another member in Nighthawk! Some fans will want Nighthawk’s other iconic costume, and I’m sure we’ll get that down the line. This isn’t a character I’m a huge fan of, but he looks good for those out there who dig him.
Ebony Maw: The sole movie character assigned to this wave is the third of all four Black Order members coming from Hasbro (with the fourth being the exclusive Corvus Glaive figure I talked about the other day), Marvel Legends Ebony Maw is a 100% new sculpt and looks plain awesome to me. I’m shocked Ebony Maw is an individual figure and not a Build-A-Figure, and fully expect this to be the hottest figure from this wave of what’s been announced thus far.
And then we’ve got Marvel Legends Endgame Series 2, which consists of the following figures that we know about (including two newcomers):
Shuri: One of the two new figures from this lineup revealed at Toy Fair, Marvel Legends Shuri is also easily the single biggest name in either wave. Fans have been demanding a super-articulated movie Shuri action figure from Hasbro ever since the Black Panther movie hit theaters, and this one looks delightful. I hope there’s space to pack Shuri two-per-case, because she is gonna be hot.
Union Jack: The black sheep of the wave in many collectors’ eyes, this is a revisit of Union Jack, who Hasbro actually did before in the Target exclusive Red Hulk Wave. I don’t remember seeing anyone really clamoring for another take on this character, and this doesn’t seem like a big upgrade to me. Weird choice, in my opinion. But speaking of weird choices…
Rock Python: The other new reveal for Avengers Legends at NY Toy Fair was Serpent Society member Rock Python! While this is a character that 99.9%+ of the known world has never heard of, there’s actually a solid base of Serpent Society fans out there exciting about collecting the whole team. Hopefully this series will have a strong Build-A-Figure to help push this figure off of shelves, though, as I’m legit not sure there are tens of thousands of Rock Python fans out there.
Classic Loki: Complementing the Classic Thor from the 80th Anniversary ML series, we’ve got the most classic-looking super-articulated God of Mischief ever! The painted-on mail is a little weird, but that wicked smile portrait is full of win. An excellent addition to a Thor shelf. And speaking of which…
Beta Ray Bill: Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got a modern 6” Beta Ray Bill action figure! The Toybiz classic version of Beta Ray Bill still stands the test of time, but I think it’s about time we got a modern Bill to keep our modern Thor figures coming. And hey—love that hinged jaw!
The Marvel Legends Avengers Endgame figures are expected to go up for order online in March/April 2019, although release details and complete lineups are still shrouded in secrecy. I’ll update here on the site and post pre-order links as soon as Hasbro is able to reveal specifics on when these will release and what the case ratios will be.
Now that you’ve seen the first 10 Marvel Legends 2019 Avengers mass release figures, what do you think, Marvel collectors? Are you thrilled to get obscure villains like Living Laser and Rock Python, or are niche picks like that leaving you cold? What movie characters (and Build-A-Figures) are you hoping ultimately round out these series?
Finally, Shuri! Been waiting for her. She and Beta Ray Bill are easily two of the figures I’m most excited for. All of these are pretty nice, actually, except I’m still not all too fond of Loki for some reason.
Rock Python is a random, but welcome, choice. Hopefully Diamondback is next? Please?
Yes! As an 80’s guy, I back the Rachel/Diamondback suggestion too. A few other Serpent Society members would be sweet too, though not super important. One a year will suffice. Most stoked on Beta and Loki personally myself (loved Thor since the Simonson era of the 80’s)
I wish DC Comics action figure manufacturers get to this point where they start going DEEP with character selection.
Same, especially my beloved and much-missed DC Classics line. If only it had been allowed to stick around I can only imagine the deep cuts of characters we would’ve seen as well as hopefully completing teams like the Doom Patrol, LoSH, JSA, and Teen Titans and others.
This looks like a sweet wave, really looking forward to see what the BAF is. I do wish Hasbro has left Union Jack with butterfly joints, as the first reveals showed, would have been sweet to have a more-articulated spy character, especially dark toned for customizing. Thanks for a great preview.
I’m hoping the BAF’s for both waves aren’t anything spectacular, because I would definitely pick and choose out of this wave. Wave 1, I’d get Ebony Maw for sure, and probably Hercules, but I really hate the painted “hair” on his chest. I just don’t find that very well done. For Wave 2, I’d definitely get Shuri and probably Beta Ray Bill, although I’d much rather have his classic version. Loki is kind of like Hercules, a horrible paint app that just makes the figure less appealing. The painted chainmail looks too bad for me to even want. So, it looks like I’d only like 2 figures out of each wave.
I’m guessing one the BAFs is an armored mcu Thanos, beats me as far as whom the other BAF might be. I think i’m gonna be cherry picking these waves anyhow, for me the character selection isn’t appealing enough to buy either whole wave. Of course i say that now, we’ll see what happens when they are revealed lol.
I’d love a Surtur BAF, since we’re also seeing two Ragnarok 2-packs.
well! i am excited for union jack so i can complete my invaders 😉
Shuri and Ebony Maw are must-have figures for me, probably Hercules too. The rest? some i would probably get if they were on sale/discounted like Living Laser, Nighthawk (altho that cape worries me for some reason). Citizen V and Union Jack both look cool but aren’t characters i have much interest in. No interest in painted-scales Loki or the Serpent Society guy (of all the serpent society members, why him???). Beta Ray Bill is a tough call, really prefer the Thor look of the old toybiz version but mine has a leg broken off so I probably do need a new one. Not entirely thrilled with his bland outfit.
I feel like Hasbro saves the dregs of its comic figures for the mcu waves. Most of the comic character figures i get excited about seem to show up in the x-waves, spider-waves, or vintage waves.
Terry still waiting on a Cinematic version of Quicksilver, since he is in the Avengers 4. Him in is costume from Age of Ultron would be fantastic.
I wouldn’t be surprised if an mcu quicksilver showed up in one of these waves, after all seems like they will finally be giving us a clint barton figure. I wouldn’t even mind if they threw him in a 2-pack or 3-pack that has quicksilver with scarlet witch (and maybe vision) since that sw/vision 2-pack was pretty hard to find at msrp. But of course a single card quicksilver would be ideal.
Heimdall is the other mcu fig that i’m surprised they haven’t made yet. Guy showed up in 5 of the mcu movies, after all. I’m not sure i can come up with another mcu character who’s showed up in as many movies yet still has no figure.
Definitely cherry-picking these two waves, although very solid roster of figures per wave. Easy pass on Shuri and Ebony Waw, but Nighthawk, Herc, Living Laser (which it was his other more famous laser form or his classic SA look, but I’ll take what I can get) Loki, Union Jack and Rock Python (weird choice, but at least we’re getting another Serpent Society member. I can live with that. Hopefully Diamonback’s next for 2020 or sooner Harambe willing. I second Baron Nick Von Sick’s suggestion about putting out one SS member per year. Sounds good to me) Not 100% sold on Bill since I still have the classic ToyBiz one, but I might cave in if there’s nothing else on the shelves. Same for Citizen V. Not too sold on him even though I’m glad Hasbro’s putting out more Thunderbolts figures. Again, all-in-all, not a bad batch of figures per wave. very curious as to who’s the BAF for those waves. Hopefully it’s good choices like a Mr. Hyde or something like that rather than yet ANOTHER Thanos figure.
I’m confused — Does that mean we’re only getting two more MCU figures from each wave? Aren’t they usually seven max? By my estimation that means only four Endgame figures which feels insane to me. There should easily be two full waves considering how many Black Panther got.
I’m guessing there will be a third Endgame wave and also a bunch of exclusives, but we’ll have to wait and see…
There is indeed going to be 3 Avengers Endgame Waves, I got that confirmed the other day. Definitely going to be some exclusives and 2-packs as well. To be honest, I’m sure we will still Endgame product in 2020, just like we are still getting Infinity War product this year.
I’m guessing both BAFs are MCU. Wave 1’s is rumored to be Armored Thanos. And there will probably be a lot of exclusives; a two-pack of Black Widow and Hawkeye just leaked out.
I had no interest in Living Laser until I saw these closer shots. He looks a lot better than I expected. I could probably just get this Hercules and be happy. Anything else would be bonus. But I’ll probably be getting about 2/3 of everything pictured here anyway unless the BAF just requires me to get them all. Herc, Living Laser, Nighthawk, and Shuri would be my most wanted though.
Happy to see Shuri finally. Hercules and Living Laser are looking really cool as well.
