There are certain things that you just never dare to dream about in collecting. And for me, the very notion that Hot Toys might ever make a high-end sixth scale figure of the original Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider costume—complete with blue hoodie!!—is one of those things. But thanks to the magic of the PS4 Spider-Man GamerVerse license and the Video Game Masterpieces series, the impossible has become possible: the Toy Fair EXCLUSIVE Hot Toys Scarlet Spider figure is now up for order!

I’ve been around the block a few billion times as far as Marvel collecting goes, so there’s not that much that gets announced anymore that makes my eye bug out of my head anymore. But Hot Toys creating an official, high-end 1/6 Scarlet Spider figure based off of the original Clone Saga Ben Reilly costume…? Yeah—consider my eyes officially absent from their sockets.

When I woke up this week to photos from the reveal of the Scarlet Spider Hot Toys figure, I literally thought it was some sort of illegal custom item that had gotten confused with a legitimate product and spread through social media. But nope—it seems Hot Toys is ready to try their hand at one of the most popular Spidey costumes of all-time!

While the Clone Saga was reviled and ridiculed for well over a decade, it’s really grown on some folks and become more popular through the lens of nostalgia over the last few years.

And while the storyline itself was always panned by critics, one thing most fans have always loved from it is the Ben Reilly clone of Peter Parker and his wacky blue hoodie costume, so it’s great to see one of the first high-end items for the character ever.

But is it any good…? Uhhh, yeah. This is Hot Toys we’re talking about, and Ben Reilly’s Scarlet Spider costume really plays to their strength since they can basically just do a normal Spidey figure with a flexible fabric costume and a soft goods blue hoodie over it.

 In addition, for anyone worried that HT might somehow cheap out and just repaint an inaccurate Spider-Man head, have no fear: an all-new fully authentic Scarlet Spider head has been included here—and it looks spot-on perfect.

It might not sound like anything special, but Hot Toys has absolutely nailed the look and design of this Scarlet Spidey. As much as I love my Bowen Designs and Marvel Legends versions of the character, for me, this is the definitive Scarlet Spider collectible.

And the accessories—! Let’s talk about the accessories—!! There are plenty of them, and they are purely awesome. I’d go so far as to say this is one of the most eclectic and useful varieties of accessories that we’ve ever seen with a Hot Toys Marvel sixth scale figure!

The smorgasbord of accessories includes: various web lines, a plethora of interchangeable hands, a donut, a smartphone, a coffee cup, a camera, a pizza with pizza box, a web effects piece, a figure stand—and yes, there’s even a removable slice of pizza. This loadout is just plain crazy taters!

I’m going to come right out and admit it: I’m having a bit of a love affair with this figure, and I’m planning to buy two of it: one to pose the crap out of and play around with to my heart’s content, and one to keep “nice” in a museum pose in a detolf display case.

This is a holy grail Spider-Man figure for me, and I reckon it’ll be similar for many other fans. I hope Hot Toys is prepared for what I expect to be an exceptionally high demand for this “Video Game Masterpiece” figure, because this would be a really unfortunate figure to see underproduced–many, many folks are gonna want this figure.

The EXCLUSIVE Hot Toys Spider-Man Scarlet Suit figure is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released around September 2019. This is a “Toy Fairs Exclusive”, which means that it won’t be available via other retailers like BBTS and the like. The last Marvel exclusive MMS was the Neon Tech Iron Man that sold out in minutes, so if you know you want this—jump on it!

Am I overrating this figure because of my zeal and enthusiasm for Ben Reilly, or do you agree with my thoughts on this 1/6, Marvel collectors?
