Last week an unproduced Wolverine Marvel Legends Rogue figure carded sample sold for an insane nearly $3,000 online. Perhaps realizing that there’s a ludicrous amount of money to be made, packaged samples of three more unproduced Marvel Legends variants (running changes) have now surfaced! If you’ve for hundreds of dollars to burn, you could own the only known samples of the Marvel Legends Sentry, Iron Fist and X-Force Archangel in existence!
This time, however, I expect all three figures to sell for amounts of money that aren’t astronomical. Why? Because this time the auctions are for three figures that either have already been released in some form or will be released in some form in early 2015.
The X-Force Archangel Marvel Legends figure was already released as part of the SDCC 2012 Marvel Legends X-Force box set, and while that set is sought-after, you could still buy it many times over before it reaches the sale price of a Phoenix Five Cyclops or Rogue figure.
Personally, I’m not terribly interested in owning the carded samples of any of these figures. While their existence on these particular cardbacks is neat and all, they’re not nearly the grail that something like the totally unproduced Marvel Legends Dani Moonstar or Blade would be.
The auctions for the unproduced 2012 Marvel Legends running change variants are scheduled to end Saturday night, 9/20/2014. I’ll monitor the auctions and post updates on how well they’re going to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page, so keep watching if you’re interested in these.
Is anyone out there planning to make a bid on these likely one-of-a-kind Marvel Legends carded samples? Do you care about owning a figure in packaging that it will never be mass-produced in, or is the figure insane the package all you’re really interested in?
Man, I don’t understand Hasbro at all. The figures produced from these waves were hard to get in the first place – it’s not like there were pegwarmers (well, with the possible exception of that terrible Iron Man). They could easily have re-shipped several times with the running changes and sold tons more product. Instead, they put the time and money into designing, producing, and marketing variants that never came out, and just moved on to other waves. What was the point?
Well, first of all, how do you know they could have easily re-shipped and sold more product? Based on what? Just opinion?
Yes, it cost money to design produce and market variants, but do you know how much it actually cost? Versus…say, how much it would have cost to produce them in the 1000s??
A lot of you guys always bitch and complain but your comments come off as if you know shit, which you obviously dont.
Next time you have an opinion, make it better.
(This is where i expect you to look through my spelling and try and find an error, and then attack my grammar or something to try and shift the conversation. So I left a misspelled word just for you somewhere.)
Would you just shut up and move on to a site where your opinion is meaningful to someone, “brandaband”?
I totally agree. If Hasbro can’t afford “all of that cost”, why do they display the figures at the conventions? They should be kept in the vault waiting for the moment when “the poor Hasbro can produce them”. Hasbro produces a lot of trash, tons of Iron Mans, Captains America with shooting guns and on different designs. I’m tired of see them everywhere.
They re just so stupid. Customers interests are not Hasbro concern!
Yes, you are right, that’s what Hasbro did to G.I.Joe, they destroyed it. Right now, they should have released several waves for the current 50th Anniversary, and what do we get? A few action figures, tons of Kre-O and a great vehicle sold only to the assistants of the SDCC 2014.
Dwight stall is the tool behind crap like this. I really hate that guy.
“The love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil.”
And now… a sci-fi nerd type quote,”Hate leads to suffering.”
Well as much as I’d like to have these figures, I rather have them come out under the infinite line. Possibly different hands or energy fields for Iron Fist, possibly some extra hands for sentry or something. I’m sure someone will say how do I know they’re going to make them. I don’t but if they do come out I’d rather have them come out in the infinite series.
“Meanwhile, the white Iron Fist and Sentry Marvel Legends are both confirmed for release as part of the Avengers Marvel Legends[Infinite] 2015 Series 1 assortment due out in January 2015.”
This. Is. Happening. I agree with you on this, sir. Better to get these figures as part of the upcoming legends Infinite line!
