Though the number of figures being released per year is a fraction of what there once was and the selection at the Disney Parks is down to almost nothing, Disney Vinylmation is still alive and puttering along! And following up the successful release of the Vinylmation Spider-Man series last winter, the all-new Disney Vinylmation Marvel Series 3 figures will be arriving this week! Mickey-shaped Daredevil and Moon Knight, anyone…?
And after two series of iconic Avengers and Spider-Man related characters, this time Disney is sharing the love with fans of modern Marvel Comics, including comics-based heroes like Miles Morales Spider-Man and Carol Danvers Captain Marvel!
The complete lineup for Marvel Vinylmation Series 3 figures is as follows:
- Daredevil
- Luke Cage (Power Man)
- Iron Fist (Green Costume)
- Miles Morales (Ultimate Spider-Man)
- Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)
- She-Hulk
- Moon Knight
- Black Bolt
- Nova (Sam Alexander)
- Winter Soldier
- Iron Man (Classic)
- Mystery Chaser
I never thought I’d like to see the day that Daredevil would be headlining a series of any kind of toys, so kudos to Marvel Studios for finally making Daredevil a popular character with the masses! The Vinylmation Daredevil figure also happens to be one of the best-looking designs in this series, although his billy club looks suspiciously closer to a red candy cane that it does a billy club to me…
And wow, crazy schizophrenic mercenary Moon Knight gets his own Marvel Vinylmation vinyl figure? Awesome–just awesome. This series has amazing character selection, and covers most of the bases of my most-wanted non-X-Men characters as far as Vinylmation goes.
If this turns out to be the last series (and I would prefer it not me), at least we got some great second-tier Marvel characters before the line went off into the sunset.
I think it’s worth noting that this series contains most of Spidey’s best buddies from the “Ultimate Spider-Man” cartoon series, including Nova, Iron Fist and Power Man Luke Cage.
I would dearly love it if a Vinylmation White Tiger figure was the one-per-case Vinylmation Marvel Series 3 Mystery Chaser figure to round out the team, but that may be hoping for too much, as poor White Tiger just isn’t a high-profile character. But hey–who knows, right?
Vinylmation designer Thomas Scott confirmed in an interview that this series will also contain the usual secret variant figures that collectors have come to know and love (or despise). Looking at the character selection in this series, my best guesses as to the Vinylmation Marvel 3 variants are a White Iron Fist, a Stealth Iron Man and perhaps a Tiara-wearing classic Luke Cage. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of potential for other easy variants in this set.
Loki will be available exclusively as this wave’s “combo topper”, packaged with one random blind box. This Marvel combo topper Loki set won’t be available at launch this week–it’ll be released on November 16th at Disneyland Super Hero HQ’s grand opening, and then online and at Walt Disney World on November 20th.
Disney Vinylmation Marvel Series 3 will be available exclusively online and in the Disney Parks on Friday, November 6th 2015. With some of the recent series selling out instantly both at the parks and online, I’ll be curious to see if Disney has underestimated the demand for this set as well (though I dearly hope that they have not).
How do you like this heavily comics-influenced Vinylmation Series 3 Marvel set? Are you still collecting Vinylmation until the end, or have you moved on to other Marvel collectible pastures?
Nice line up.
its lame they threw in another Iron Man when they could have had Jessica Jones, White Tiger or Hellcat.
