One thing about Marvel collecting we can count on reliably as we head into 2022 is that Diamond Select Toys will keep consistently churning out all-new Marvel collectibles basically every single month, just as they’ve been doing for just about two decades now. And while their latest round of solicits included just one pair of Marvel-themed items, both are good sculptures that will appeal highly to value-priced collectors: the X-Men Animated Professor X and deluxe Marvel Gallery Green Goblin statue are now available for order!
DST has been slowly chipping away at the full roster of the 90s X-Men Animated Series team for well over a year now, and following the recent pre-order for Storm a couple months back, it’s finally the bald guy who started it all’s time to shine!
While I really and truly want to see X-Men TAS Beast and Jubilee busts soon to complete the core team (no company has ever made a Jubilee bust ever for some reason), I’m not about to turn my nose up at a rare piece of mass-produced merch of 90s Charles Xavier in his semi-iconic yellow hoverchair!
I loved the recent Animated Gambit bust I reviewed a couple weeks ago, and am definitely keen on filling out my main team now (no offense to random inclusions in Diamond Select’s lineup like Deadpool that I will live without on my shelf).
Professor X is the kind of not-flashy hero that ofttimes gets neglected in lines of collectibles, so I’m delighted to see him being covered here while this animated mini busts line still has a lot of steam left.
The $69.99 MSRP is swell for pricing Chuck, at a value fans will be willing to pay for a character who traditionally isn’t most peoples’ favorite, and I hugely appreciate that DST is going the extra mile and incorporating a sizable chunk of the hover chair itself into the 1/7 scale resin sculpture here.
Meanwhile, the Green Goblin is flying in and making his long-overdue debut in the marvel Gallery PVC statue series in grandiose fashion, with an 11” diorama release of ol’Gobby cruising out of a cloud of smoke on his Goblin Glider and preparing to hurl some pumpkin bombs!
This is the single most expensive Marvel Gallery figure ever, carrying a stiff price-tag of about $125. That’s a real bundle for fans used to buying DST Gallery PVCs for 40-50 bucks!
That said, with the large extras like the Goblin Glider and billowing smoke effects, plus the wall-mountable feature of the whole diorama, I think this has real potential to be a big hit for Diamond Select Toys (and maybe a gateway for future larger PVCs).
I believe this is the second Marvel Gallery statue with a hole on the back facilitating wall-mounting to ever be released (the other being a standard-priced leaping Spider-Man himself, IIRC).
The Professor Xavier Animated Bust and Green Goblin Gallery diorama (discounted to $115 shipped on EE for early orders!) are now available for pre-order, and are scheduled to arrive in June 2022. Professor X is a limited edition of 3000 pieces, and may be a semi-fast sell-out if some recent other characters in the line like Deadpool are any indication.
What do you think of DST’s last Marvel solicitations of 2021? Who do you want to see in the 90s X-Men Animated bust line next? And are you hoping to see more deluxe Marvel Gallery diorama figures in the future, or would you rather Diamond Select keeps that line as inexpensive and easily accessible as it’s been since its inception?
Not a statue guy, but loving the energy that Green Gob is bringing
