I usually don’t report on XM Studios Marvel statues. Not because they’re not beautiful (they are), and not because they’re expensive (they are), but because they’re literally near-impossible for most folks stateside to acquire. Even so, the most recent statue to go up for order (but not for us in the U.S.) caught my eye, as it’s my favorite female character! Just like a high-priced lawyer, you’ll need mucho dinero to snag a 1/4 XM Studios She-Hulk statue…
There was a brief period where BBTS was able to get enough stock of XM Studios statues to have them available on their website for a few days, but that quickly dwindled to hours, then minutes, and then not at all.
Basically, if you’re in the United States, your options for acquiring XM Studios statues these days are finding one of the very few import stores that have extras of the XM Marvel statues to sell, paying $1000+ plus shipping on the aftermarket and, well… that’s it. She-Hulk was no exception.
The XM She-Hulk statue was limited to 999 pieces, which you’d typically expect to be enough for a quarter-scale statue that costs $859 SGD (over $630 USD) to begin with. But with XM Studios being the hottest (and most scalpable) new Marvel licensee on the market, she was sold out immediately to individuals and third party resellers.
Standing 55 cm (about 21.7″) tall, this Warren Rossi-sculpted XM She-Hulk statue is among the largest female Marvel statues ever produced. It’s not quite the massive size of the amazing XM Studios Phoenix statue, but She-Hulk also can’t channel a near-omnipotent entity either, so all’s fair.
And while Shulkie doesn’t have a giant flaming bird behind her, she does have some way-cool trendy sneakers!
The XM Studios She-Hulk statue comes with three interchangeable left arms (one flexing, one making a fist and one neutrally posed), as well as two interchangeable heads (modern and retro).
I love the alternate poses the different arms allow and the retro head with wavy hair, but something about the straight-haired modern She-Hulk portrait looks totally off-model to me. It’s lacking the authenticity of the Sideshow Premium Format She-Hulk head sculpt, which makes it less beautiful in my opinion.
If I had the opportunity to purchase this She-Hulk 1/4 statue for around $700-$800 shipped, I’d be in for it for sure. But for the $1400 and up XM Studios She-Hulk is selling for on eBay? Yeah–no thank you. I’ll stick with my Bowen and Sideshow She-Hulk statues.
The She-Hulk XM Studios 1/4th scale statue is scheduled to ship out in October 2015. I’ll be following this statue closely, as She-Hulk is one of my faves, so I’ll try to post production photos of the finished piece once collectors start receiving her.
Thoughts on the XM She-Hulk statue or the XM Studios Marvel line as a whole, Marvel collectors? Do you think these statues are worth the $1200-$3000+ shipped that they’re currently selling for, or has the hype overinflated the market for these statues?
My recently pre ordered Kotobukiya Bishoujo Shulkie is more than enough for my needs. Especially at the wallet calming 70$ price tag.
1400$ for this is way too rich for my blood.
