Have you been feeling an emptiness in your Marvel quarter-scale statue collecting heart lately? If so, it’s probably because Sideshow Collectibles hasn’t put a new Marvel 1/4 statue up for order in over two months! Yep–after putting a new Marvel Premium Format Figure up for order almost every other week during the summer, we haven’t had a new announcement in months. But popular newcomer XM Studios is stepping up to fill the void, with loads of upcoming statues–including the newly-revealed XM Studios Quicksilver statue!
According to XM Studios Premium Collectibles, the intent is to create two different statues of Quicksilver: one portraying Quicksilver in a standard museum pose, and one showing Quicksilver utilizing his super-speed abilities in a running pose.
Studio HIVE designed the concept art for the two XM Quicksilver statue, while David Giraud created the 3-D digital sculpt for Quicksilver.
I’m content with the multitude of museum Quicksilver statues that Bowen Designs released several years ago (and all of which are still available on ebay for pretty cheap), but I have to admit that that running pose Quicksilver design looks super-slick. While I’ve never been a huge fan of Quicksilver’s Avengers appearances, he is a favorite of mine from the various iterations of Peter David’s X-Factor, so I will definitely consider buying the running Quicksilver statue if it comes out looking as cool as the digital sculpt for it does.
I expect this costume choice to be controversial if XM goes ahead with it for the final product, but I think it has the potential to look pretty neat–I’ll reserve judgement until we see what the finished quarter-scale Quicksilver is going to look like.
The quarter-scale Quicksilver statues by XM Studios are still in development, and aren’t expected to go up for order until 2015. Start saving our pennies (and ten dollar bills) soon, though, as Quicksilver is likely to cost the same $600-$700 as most XM Studios Marvel statues do. I’ll post updates here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page as XM Studios continues to show us the evolution of these Quicksilver 1/4 statues from the concept art stage to final product.
How do you feel about the early concept art and digital sculpt for the XM Quicksilver statues, Marvel collectors? Do you like where XM Studios is going with these pieces and their interpretation of Quicksilver’s costume, or were you hoping for a more classic approach to Quicksilver?
xm is outrageously overpriced and much poorer quality than sideshow
Really?
