2013 has been a tough year for collectors of the Hasbro Marvel Universe action figures line. Last year’s assortments with figures like Jubilee and Blastaar bled into this year and saturated stores, while some figures like 2012 Marvel Universe Nova have been near-impossible to find. And all the while, the first Marvel Universe 2013 single-packed figures have just begun to hit stores–in July. But what arrived months ago was the first assortment of 2013 Marvel Universe Team Packs including the Inhumans, West Coast Avengers and X-Men. And take heart if you haven’t bought them yet–they’re now on clearance sale!
This series includes Marvel Universe West Coast Avengers (Hawkeye, Mockingbird and War Machine), Uncanny X-Men (Rogue, Wolverine, Longshot and X-Babies Cyclops) and Inhumans (Black Bolt, Karnak and Medusa) sets. Hasbro was tragically misguided and chose to heavy-pack the least desirable set, the West Coast Avengers, leading to that particular pack clogging up store shelves by the half-dozen since its release a couple months ago. Apparently, Mockingbird is not the headliner figure Hasbro thought she was. Meanwhile, I’ve only seen the X-Men set at retail a grand total of once. Good call, Hasbro.
The photo I took came out a bit blurred, but the 2013 Marvel Universe Team Packs are all marked down for $24.99 to $17.48 right now–about 30% off. That comes out to less than $6 per figure, which is far less than I’m used to paying for my Hasbro Marvel Universe figures these days. Next markdown would likely be to $12.49, or 50% off.
My local Target had close to a dozen of the Marvel Universe West Coast Avengers Team Packs available, so those may actually drop in price some more. But if you want to snag an Inhumans set for $17–or have any faint hope of finding the hard-to-find Uncanny X-Men set–now’s the time to hit your local Target stores!
