Sony shocked everyone earlier this week when, after numerous delays over the last year, they actually moved the released date for the Venom 2 movie forward to October 1st! That means Venom: Let There Be Carnage will now be in theaters in under a month—and what better way to celebrate than with some new(-ish) merch, right? In a wildly unexpected move of their own, Kotobukiya is bringing “Renewal Editions” of their ARTFX+ Venom and Carnage statues back up for pre-order with new paint, new heads and even all new bases! Do these new additions make these 1/10 PVC statues worth their new higher prices?

It’s been almost a full year now since their most recent Marvel Bishoujo statue took the stage, but Kotobukiya is finally back at it again with an all-new addition to their long-running PVC figure lineup! Designed by Shunya Yamashita and sculpted by TSUBAME, former X-23 Laura Kinney is back with a new costume and codename: the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Wolverine Laura Kinney statue is now up for order! Laura has grown up and succeeded Logan as Wolverine–will her new Bishoujo succeed the old X-23 one in your collection?
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya has dramatically slowed down their output of Marvel collectibles over the last year and change, and news on their Marvel ARTFX Premier and Bishoujo lines has trickled to almost nothing. But an area where Koto is still going strong carrying the mighty Marvel banner is their 1/6 Marvel Fine Art statue line, with several big-name characters arriving over the next half-year. And this week, they’ve added another to the list: the Kotobukiya Iron Man Fine Art statue is now available for pre-order! How does this Iron Man look as a standalone statue, and also with the Thor and Captain America companion pieces?
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya only brought along a singular piece of concept art for their long-running Marvel Bishoujo statues series when they travelled to New York Toy Fair 2020 during the winter, so there was never any mystery regarding what the next release would be: Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat. The original 2011 release required an awful support stand and looked too much like a little girl for me, so I had high hopes for this new iteration. And now that the Kotobukiya Black Cat Steals Your Heart Bishoujo statue is up for order, I’m happy to say that my optimism has been rewarded…
Continue Reading →New York Comic Con 2020 is not something I expected to be talking about in May 2020–especially since it’s uncertain whether or not that beloved annual October event is even going to occur this year. But Kotobukiya had other thoughts, because this week they went and announced a limited edition exclusive for the show—that’s only available via pre-order from online retailers! The Kotobukiya NYCC 2020 Bishoujo Phoenix Rebirth (Green) Statue is now up for order—is this an exclusive worth locking in?
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya didn’t bring quite as elaborate of a spread of new Marvel statues to display at New York Toy Fair 2020 as they have in past years, but they did bring along a few previously announced figures to show off in the United States for the very first time! Along with the ARTFX Premier Scarlet Witch statue that’s now up for order, they also displayed the ARTFX Premier Captain Marvel and the concept art for the new version of a Black Cat Bishoujo PVC statue!
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya has been steadily pumping out new Marvel ARTFX Premier statues ever since the line debuted at New York Toy Fair 2019 in February, with the series of premium PVC figures already in the double-digits heading into 2020. There have been some colorful choices thus far such as Loki and Cosmic Ghost Rider, but the latest is the most out-of-left-field yet: the Kotobukiya Silk ARTFX Premier statue is now up for order! How’s it look—and does an audience for merch of this character still exist…?
Continue Reading →X-Men Dark Phoenix ended up being a catastrophe at the box office, but by the time merchandisers knew that for absolute certain, there were already quite a few collectibles for the character in the pipeline. Luckily, even if the movie was a total dud, Dark Phoenix toys are almost always popular. Or at least, that’s what Kotobukiya is hoping, because the new Bishoujo Dark Phoenix Rebirth figure is now up for order—and it’s the most expensive Marvel Bishoujo ever made by a wide margin!
Continue Reading →Bowen Designs is a company that’s been on my tongue a lot lately since we’ve seen a small resurgence of mini-busts this year and even a Sideshow Wolverine bust last week that’s basically an updated version of the original Bowen version. And this week, the ante is being raised even higher, as we’ve got what’s essentially an update of a whole Bowen Designs 1/6 Statue: the Kotobukiya Thanos on Throne Fine Arts Statue is now up for order! Is it a worthy upgrade to the one released almost a decade ago?
Continue Reading →Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse was a rare surprise hit for the modern superhero movie genre, as ordinarily these days it’s expected that most superhero movies have blockbuster potential. But Into the Spider-Verse came and conquered, and now collectibles companies are racing to catch up and claim their cut! Kotobukiya is next up at bat with the first in a series of 1:10 Scale statues from the film: the Kotobukiya Into the Spider-Verse Miles Morales ARTFX PVC figure is now up for order!
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya surprised the collecting sphere at New York Toy Fair 2019 in February when they launched their new line of high-quality, high-priced Marvel ARTFX+ Premier statues with four characters right out of the gate. They’ve been going strong with the line since, with no signs of slowing down. And at SDCC 2019, they debuted their next four entries: ARTFX Premier Loki, Black Panther, Black Widow and… Cosmic Ghost Rider!?
Continue Reading →After dropping another half dozen new Marvel Legends figures for pre-order to close out last week, let’s hope Hasbro will give collectors a little respite before hitting them up with yet another blast of solicitations. In the meantime, let’s shift our focus to the next entry in Kotobukiya’s expanding high-priced PVC line! The sixth member of the Avengers lineup just may be the best figure we’ve seen so far in the line: ARTFX Premier Doctor Strange Statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya’s Marvel ARTFX+ line of 1/10th scale PVC statues used to rule the land, but in a changing market with increased prices and much more competition, Koto has definitely stumbled a bit in recent times. They unveiled their new high-end line of plastic 1:10 Marvel ARTFX Premier statues at New York Toy Fair, but collector response has been lukewarm thus far. Can today’s solicitation of the 5th piece in the line buck the trend? The Kotobukiya She-Hulk ARTFX Premier Statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya took the ARTFX+ collecting world by surprise at New York Toy Fair 2019, where they announced a new line of high-end ARTFX Premier statues with extensive detailing in their tried-and-true classic 1:10 scale format. Captain America, Thor and Iron Man quickly launched for POs after Toy Fair, and now it’s time for the last of the four pieces that debuted there: the Kotobukiya Immortal Hulk ARTFX Premier Statue is now up for order! But even with premium details, is a 7” PVC statue worth $200…?
Continue Reading →Kotobukiya Marvel Bishoujo collectors have had a rather boring last few years, as the last time a new character went up for order was in 2017—and that Captain Marvel Bishoujo figure was cancelled until further notice and has never come out at all. But patience is a virtue, and the line lives on: after appearing in unpainted form at New York Toy Fair 2019, the Kotobukiya Domino Bishoujo Statue is now up for order!
