It’s becoming a bit of a tradition for the Disney Store and Marvel Store to share all of the “easy” Marvel Select repaint exclusives from Diamond Select Toys. From Marvel Select Unmasked Spider-Man to War Machine repainted into Marvel Select Iron Patriot, Disney Store and MarvelStore.com has become the de facto home for minor Marvel Select exclusives. And we can add one more character to the list, as today DST officially announced the Marvel Select Unmasked Captain America figure from “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”!

Perhaps the very best Marvel action figure of 2013 didn’t come from one of the more prolific companies like Hasbro or the most glamorous like Hot Toys. We’ve known for months now that Diamond Select Toys has a pair of Marvel Select Captain America The Winter Soldier figures scheduled to come out this spring. We’ve previously seen an image of the Marvel Select Stealth Captain America released online, and this week’s American International Toy Fair 2014 was the first chance to see Cap in person. But Stealth Cap didn’t come alone–at the New York 2014 this week, we also got to see the Marvel Select Falcon figure fly in for his grand debut!

As I only became an avid collector of Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select figures last year, each month the announcement of what Marvel Select figure reissues are scheduled to come out is often just as exciting as the announcement of all-new Marvel Select figures.

Sometimes Diamond Select Toys is very successful at keeping a secret, and sometimes they’re foiled by their own packaging materials! Though the Disney Store exclusive Marvel Select Superior Spider-Man figure was meant to be kept top-secret until Disney was ready to announce it, a photo of the figure was in the pamphlet that came with the most recent Marvel Select action figures. But even though the surprise was ruined, I’m still enthusiastic about this figure. The Marvel Select Superior Spider-Man figure is now officially announced and available for order!

Diamond Select Toys confirmed last week that an Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select Figure was on the way, and this week they’ve released their first photos of the upcoming Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man 2 action figure!
While it seems very unlikely based on what we’ve heard that there will be any super-villains released for Amazing Spider-Man 2 in the Marvel Select line, at least we’ll have Spider-Man wearing a fireman hat! The Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man 2 figure is now up for pre-order!

Earlier today I heard about the refresh of their sold-out and popular Marvel Select Arachne figure coming back to stores next year, but further news indicates that she won’t be coming alone! I griped an awful lot last month when Diamond Select Toys announced that they were reissued the Marvel Select Spider-Woman figure. I complained that it didn’t make sense to re-release the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman Marvel Select action figure (as that figure typically sells below its original cost on the aftermarket), when they should have reissued the more valuable Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman II Marvel Select figure. Well, it seems I was just a bit hasty, as the Marvel Select Arachne variant action figure is heading back to stores in 2014!

Something unexpected and absolutely stupefying happened this week: not only did the Marvel Select Silver Surfer ship out on time, it actually shipped out early. While retailers were listing a December 2013 release date for the Silver Surfer Marvel Select figure, Diamond Select Toys snuck him out the door and into stores–even before the still-delayed Thor 2 Jane Foster! One of the best things about Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select action figures line is that DST regularly reissues older figures from the line, thus giving new collectors a chance to collect Marvel Select figures that have been out of print (sometimes for years) without having to max out their credit card bill. Sometimes Diamond Select makes character choices to reissue that are sensational, and sometimes the picks are less exciting. The impending 2014 reissues of Marvel Select Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman fall into the more boring latter category…
