I was beginning to wonder if Hasbro was going to bother sending out high-res images of the upcoming 3.75″ Avengers Assemble Series 1 action figures, but it seems I started to doubt just a little bit too soon!
Today, Hasbro sent out press images of five of the six figures scheduled for the first series of figures based on the new Avengers Assemble cartoon: Red Skull, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk and even The Falcon!

I promise that I didn’t purposely go out looking for them, but I did happen to stumble upon the Hasbro “The Wolverine” movie figures at Toys R Us this weekend. It’s pretty unusual for new Marvel action figures to be out in stores in New England before I’ve heard loads of people talking about having found and bought them online beforehand. Hasbro might have thought they were fooling someone by releasing information on all of the Hasbro San Diego Comic-Con exclusives yesterday except one, but their attempted surprise was more than a little spoiled by the fact that we had already seen and reported on the Marvel Universe Lady Deadpool, Kidpool, Dogpool, and Championpool figures last week.

Over the last year or two, the Hasbro Marvel Universe line has really slowed down a near-grinding halt. With only a handful of new Marvel Universe action figures coming out each year, Marvel collectors long for the days of yesteryear when it seemed like there were new Marvel Universe 3.75″ figures on the pegs every month.
While the line isn’t expected to pick up speed again anytime soon (if ever), prototypes have been found of at least one new Marvel Universe 2013 Team Pack to get excited about: the Marvel Universe Deadpool Corps figures!

Iron Man 3 has been “the next big Marvel movie” for so long that it’s hard to reconcile that the movie is out in theaters now, and the true next big Marvel movie is “The Wolverine”, opening July 26th, 2013! Don’t get me wrong–“The Wolverine” is going to do fairly well at the box office, but it’s not going to gross nearly as much as “Iron Man 3”, nor is it going to have a fraction of the breadth and depth of the various toy lines merchandising Iron Man 3. It’s been a slow year thus far for Hasbro Marvel Universe figure collectors, but things are about to start heating up! Marvel Universe 2013 Series 1 cases have now been put up for ordering and will ship out in June 2013! While it’s always a bit puzzling when the first series of the year for a toy line ships halfway through the year, I’m thankful to get some new Marvel Universe 3 3/4″ action figures at all!
