The existence of a 2018 Marvel Legends Deadpool series wasn’t the best-kept secret ever (I guessed it over a year ago and then leaked lists all but confirmed it earlier this year), but at SDCC 2017, we finally got to see most of the figures that will make up the wave. And while the characters revealed may not have been unexpected, the new Marvel Legends X-23, Deathlok, Domino and more are good enough to knock our socks off anyway…
We’re getting a slimmer, more classic Rob Liefeld-looking Deadpool 6″ figure to headline this series. This will be good for those who never found the 2016 Deadpool, as well as those who like their Wade Wilson look classic. And hey–I totally dig the butterfly swivel shoulders!
And hey, can’t have a classic Deadpool without a classic version of his BFF, right? While we just got a modern Cable Legends figure in 2016, next year we’ll be getting a classic Cable Marvel Legends figure in his iconic first appearance attire from New Mutants #98.
I think this is a costume that is long overdue to get the 6″ ML treatment, and I’m thrilled we’re getting it (even if it is less than two years after the last Cable).
Completing the Rob Liefeld trio is the first-ever mass release Marvel Legends Domino figure. I don’t know how I feel about those purple guns, but this Domino Legends figure is going to make a lot of X-Force fans happy. Great selection.
Two more figures were revealed during the SDCC 2017 Hasbro Marvel panel, and both drew plenty of cheers from the crowd. First, we’ve got the first Marvel Legends Deathlok figure since the Toybiz Deathlok (which peg-warmed like crazy back in the good ol’ days). This figure makes sense since Deathlok was part of the Uncanny X-Force team that Wade was a part of, for those who were wondering.
They don’t show it in the official photo, but on display in the booth at Comic-Con we got a look at Deathlok’s huge mini-cannon which is about as big as he is!
A lot of collectors are frustrated that this isn’t an X-23 Wolverine figure in yellow costume and that she doesn’t have the two foot claws, but the Hasbro team seemed to tease that that version of X-23 is in the works. Could we see her in the Apocalypse Build-A-Figure series next year…?
In addition, the Gamestop Exclusive Back in Black Deadpool (“Venompool”) figure, which largely uses the Superior Venom mold, was also shown. I don’t know that a lot of collectors were crying out for this 2016 comic book costume, but let’s be real here: it’s a Venom/Deadpool mashup. It’s gonna sell just fine.
What do you think of the first five figures that comprise the Deadpool ML Series? Who are you hoping to see complete the wave, and what are your bets on who the Build-A-Figure is (my money is on a T-Ray BAF, personally)?
This is shaping up to be a solid wave, but I’m going to be in the minority here to say that I’ll cherry-pick. Cable, Domino and Deathlok are solid locks for me, but I’m one of the few people who only need one Deadpool. X-23 never did anything for me as a character, and this one has a massively oversized nogging.
That said we’ll have to see who the remaining figures are… and of course who the BAF is. Knowing Hasbro, the BAF will be someone irresistable and I have to buy the whole wave…
Tony Colella (senior Model artist) challenged me to guess the BAF. The only criteria he would give is that he/she/it was both X-Men and Deadpool related. My default (and heart pick) will always be Sauron, but strangely enough, this actually fits! He’s an X-Men villain and he was in the Weapon X program. Despite that, I went with Sasquatch (he’s X-Men related, and Canadian). I went with this because we were talking about the Captain Marvel wave down the line, and when I suggested Sasquatch to be the BAF, both Dwight and Tony went “whoa”. May be nothing, but I went with it.
I’m gonna go “The Price is Right” method and go with Blind Al. What?… Hitmonkey happened right?
X-23 and Venompool are my 2 must haves!
I’m in the camp that says I can end up buying any one of these… or not a single one of them. The BAF option could change that completely, but I’m not really INTO getting any of these enough to get excited.
Hell yes!!! Keep that comic goodness coming!
Deathlok, X-23, and possibly Domino are my picks here. I’m perfectly satisfied with the last Deadpool and Cable releases, And Venompool…meh.
I prefer Laura’s gray and black Wolverine suit introduced in ANW #19 over the blue and gold. Dark colors just work better for her, and I especially love the biker chick look it lends her when the jacket is worn open.
That said, I’m still dying for a Hot Toys 1/6 of her…
I’m actually in for all of these figures. I think they look great! For me though, the one that I’m most excited about is Deathlok. Always been one of my favorite “fringe” characters in the Marvel universe and I’ve been waiting for him to come to the new Marvel Legends line!
thanks Hasbro for classic Cable !!!! Now we got Shatterstar ,Domino –
so please we need Warpath ( and his Brother , classic Thunderbird )
and a Sunspot figure and a first time 6 ” Kane to complete X – Force !!!!!!
And as Baf Strongguy
we need Cannonball before warpath tho… hopefullly a orignal xforce wave before the movie or a new mutant wave before the movie with sunspot and cannonball
we gong to need Cannonball before warpath… would b great to get xforce wave before the movie or a New mutants wave before the movie n get cannonball and sunspot
and as BAF stryfe
Deathlok, and only Deathlok.
A lot of us were frustrated that this wasn’t SJW X-23? Like hell we were.
hello
This line is pretty weak. Deathlok is a definite must-have BARELY followed by X-23 & Leifeld inspired Cable. Domino looks weak, another Deadpool who cares, and venompool or whatever?!?! I’m good. Its trash.
Give me a an old school Moon Knight btw, that last release was garbage.
The most recent Moon Knight is actually a pretty great figure. Very poseable with nice accessories. You might not like the costume, but you can’t say it’s a bad figure just because you don’t like the particular costume it was based off of.
I just noticed that Deadpool hasn’t got boots. He don’t look right without the combat style boots.
Looks right to me. Dead on 90s Deadpool.
I wish I waited for this Cable. Lots of maybes for me. Maybe Domino and maybe Cable and if she ends up being a hard to find figure, I’ll snatch up X-23 if I can find her.
I was really wishing they’d give us Madcap but oh well. Still hope they do. Just give him Dr strange’s torso, shatterstars arms, hobgoblins boots with regular boot feet, of course new head and hat, with his little toy gun.
Is it too much to ask for a Movie Deadpool?
That won’t ever happen. The Deadpool movies are FOX, and licensing won’t allow that in Marvel Legends.
Have there been any whispers about what characters might be part of the X-men line Dabid? Other than the BAF of course.
I hope X-23 includes an unmasked Laura head for a more classic look.
I think the BAF will be Warpath. Lots of 90s stuff shown and we already have shatterstar. I think it’s a lock.
I highly doubt it. Warpath isn’t big enough to merit a BAF.
Colossus and Death’s Head II are standalone figures, so there’s basically no way Warpath would be a BAF.
I feel like Rukkness may have guessed it right when he guessed Sasquatch.
Much like his ToyBiz predecessor, the brand new Man-Thing BAF we just got has a LOT of parts that could be easily used for Sasquatch.
I definitely agree that Sasquatch is in the works, but not sure if he’d fit into the Deadpool wave. Have Sasquatch and Deadpool ever interacted?
Deadpool almost blew up the Alpha Flight base, so Deadpool and Sasquatch teamed up to stop it.
That’s about it as far as I know.
Other than that….they’re both Canadian and X-Men adjacent.
*shrug*
If the Netflix wave Of Manthing has fought me anything is that it doesn’t matter if the BAF is related to the figures in the line.
I mean, it’s a Marvel Knights series and Man-Thing is a Marvel Knights character, at least. Now I REALLY wanna know if Deadpool and Sasquatch have ever appeared together. =D
