Just when you think Funko has done everything they can possibly do with POP Vinyls, they go and break the mold with something totally unexpected and out of left field. And last winter, they did just that by announcing a match made in heaven that nobody saw coming: the marriage of super-deformed POP Vinyls heads and… Pez dispensers?! That’s right–believe it or not, as revealed this summer, Funko POP Pez Marvel Wave 1 is coming our way: POP Pez Stan Lee, Yondu and Gladiator Hulk are now up for order!
And so, against my will, I made my first-ever purchase of… Pez… today, ordering the trio of available POP Pez Marvel collectibles that are now available on the Hot Topic website (and presumably from lots of other retailers soon enough).
Wave 1 of the Marvel POP Pez includes the following dispensers:
- Stan Lee
- Yondu (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Gladiator Hulk (Thor Ragnarok)
- CHASE Glow-in-the-Dark Gladiator Hulk (Thor Ragnarok)
- Gladiator Thor (Thor Ragnarok)
- Loki
- Star-Lord (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Magneto (Comic-Based)
- Cable (Comic-Based)
- Deadpool
- Inverse Deadpool (Exclusive)
- Blue X-Men Costume Deadpool (Exclusive)
- Yellow X-Men Costume Deadpool (CHASE Exclusive)
Funko did a masterful job of choosing characters who are hot right now like Deadpool, Loki, Cable and the Guardians of the Galaxy for this first wave. And at 6 bucks a POP (Pez), I can’t resist picking up some of my favorite characters in a unique form (although I gave my wife permission to smother me in my sleep if I ever try to become a Pez completist).
Each of these Pez POPs is 4.5″ tall, and comes with some good old-fashioned made-in-the-USA Pez candy. Is it any good? I dunno–I’ve abstained from that stuff my whole life, and I don’t intend to start trying it now.
I won’t bore you with all of these, but here’s the official blurb off of the Stan Lee Pez:
- 4 1/2″ tallĀ
- Candy made in U.S.A
- Pez Imported
- By Funko”
The first Marvel POP Pez toys are now up for order on the Hot Topic website, although their exclusive Deadpool hasn’t appeared just yet (Box Lunch will be getting the other exclusive Deadpool Pez, for those dying to know). If these were expensive, I wouldn’t give them a second glance. But a unique Yondu toy for six bucks…? Sure, what the heck? YOLO.
Is there anyone out there (besides me) who’s even the slightest bit interested in these Pez POPs? If anyone else is planning to buy one (or more!) of these doohickeys, leave a comment and let your fellow collectors know what you think of this very unique line of Funko collectibles!
