It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year, but we’re a scant two months away from San Diego Comic Con 2014, and the march toward the biggest Comic-Con of the year is beginning now in full force! And if there’s one company that knows how to fully exploit collectors at SDCC each year, it’s Funko. This year, Funko will be bringing a soul-crushing 86 exclusives to SDCC 2014, and based on the list of hints Funko has given us, we know at least thirteen of those will be Funko Marvel SDCC 2014 exclusives…
This year, it looks like we’ll only be getting one SDCC 2014 Marvel POP! Vinyl exclusive figure. But fear not, Marvel collectors–not only is it a good one, but it appears that he’ll be accompanied by twelve Funko Marvel Mystery Minis SDCC Exclusives!
Of the 52 hints that Funko released for the San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusives, only one seems like it corresponds to a Marvel POP! Vinyl. “Hint #27. Blam! This Pop! is fragging flocked!” obviously implies that we’ll be getting a Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Flocked Rocket Raccoon POP! Vinyl exclusive at SDCC 2014.(“Blam! Murdered you!” is the idiotic catchphrase that Brian Michael Bendis tried to coin for Rocket Raccoon. Ugh.)
This isn’t a surprise at all–it was more a matter of “when” than “if” Funko would do a Rocket Raccoon Flocked POP! Vinyl. Predictable as it may be, however, this is a total must-have for me as a Rocket Raccoon fanboy.
What could these be? Black & White variants of the first wave of Marvel Mystery Minis? Metallic variants? Glow-in-the-Dark Mystery Minis? Alternate costumes? We’ll have to wait and see–but with Funko, I expect them to be pretty fun no matter what they are!
I’ll post an update once Funko fully reveals their San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive Marvel toys, although I wouldn’t expect that to happen until late June/early July 2014. And you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have more news and photos of the SDCC Exclusives and other Marvel collectibles sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
Are you excited by the prospect of a Funko POP! Vinyl Flocked Rocket Raccoon variant and a set of repainted Marvel Mystery Minis for SDCC 2014, Marvel collectors? Or are none of these exclusives what you were hoping for for this year’s show?
