We’ve been living in an absolute golden age of Marvel collectibles for the last few years, but even in this era there are casualties of war that fall through the cracks and are victims of cancellation. But the Man-Thing will not be denied! After being first solicited in 2014 as a 1:4 Statue, he’s back—at half the size and a vastly lower price! The Gentle Giant Man-Thing Statue is now up for order—along with their Marvel Collector’s Gallery 1992 Wolverine!
But like the shambling inhuman creature that he is, the Man-Thing has arisen from the muck and is ready to emerge back into mankind!
Man-Thing is one of my favorite obscure characters (I can’t resist his big puppy-dog eyes), so I was really bummed when that 1/4 Man-Thing statue was cancelled.
It may have all worked out for the best, however, as that sculpture has new been resurrected as part of 1/8 Marvel Collectors Gallery line, sporting a much smaller footprint and a MUCH smaller price-tag ($189.99 MSRP). I think it’s much more likely fans will be willing to get in on this not-quite A-List character at a price that’s hundreds of dollars cheaper than the original proposed 1/4 version’s.
And yes, I know this is a statue of a swamp creature carrying an unconscious hobo clown. If you read the story, it makes sense. Trust me.
Solicited alongside Man-Thing is the second of four museum-posed Gentle Giant Wolverine statues. This time out, it’s the likely best-seller of the four: Tiger Stripe Wolverine!
This is the 1992 Wolverine costume that’s instantly recognizable from the 90s X-Men animated series, as well as being well-remembered from the Jim Lee X-Men comics (and hundreds of other comic books).
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a lower-priced resin statue of Wolverine in this costume with his mask on (DST did one with the mask off last year), so I think the market will hungrily accept this piece.
Like the Brown Costume Wolverine that went up for sale last month, this resin Wolverine ‘92 statue features real metal claws that look phenomenal. Now that I’ve seen how slick actual metal looks for his claws, I kind of want every company to start utilizing metal “adamantium” claws for their Wolverine statues!
The Gentle Giant Marvel Collectors Gallery 1992 Wolverine and Man-Thing statues are now up for order, with both estimated to ship in Q3 2018 (July-September). BBTS has both statues up for pre-order now with 10% off (a $16-$19 discount) This is the iconic Wolverine for many fans, so I’m sure Logan’s sales will be terrific—I just hope poor Man-Thing gets enough orders to actually be produced this time out and not scrapped again.
What do you think of the two new additions to Gentle Giant’s moderately-priced Marvel Collectors Gallery resin statue line? Is this “Man-Thing holding a hobo clown” statue up your alley enough for you to buy it? Would you like to see Gentle Giant tackle some more lower-tier characters like Man-Thing, or should they stick to heavy-hitters like Tiger Stripe Wolverine?
Wolverine: Hey, hey, hey!!!…my eyes are up here.
