As I was getting ready for bed last night at my usual 4AM bedtime, I glanced at my Facebook Newsfeed briefly and was a bit taken aback to see a post by Hot Toys with a mega-sized image of Deadpool’s mask on it. The teaser photo’s accompanying text gave collectors the news that many have been praying for: an official Hot Toys Deadpool sixth scale figure is being released next year! But wait! We didn’t just get an announcement that Wade was coming–at today’s Toy Soul 2015 event overseas, the Deadpool Hot Toys figure was officially revealed!

What a wonderful world it is where one can go to bed one night with a mega-ton announcement of an upcoming high-end action figure, and wake up the next day to hi-res images of said figurine popping up from across the world, right?

Fans had reason to fear that Deadpool would suffer the same fate as every FOX Marvel character other than Wolverine and never appear in Hot Toys form, but those fears can now come to an end: Hot Toys is the only company that’s been given the rights to produce a sixth scale Deadpool movie figure! And I have to say: this Deadpool…? It looks amazing.

I was very satisfied with the quality of the Sideshow Collectibles Deadpool 1/6th scale collectible figure released earlier this year, but Sideshow went for a “real world” approach to Wade Wilson, whereas Hot Toys is faithfully recreating the movie costume for the character.

As a result, the Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Deadpool figure looks more like a classic comic book version of the character than the supposed “comics-based” Sideshow iteration! Crazy, huh? I’m happy with my Sideshow Deadpool and won’t be selling him, but this Deadpool Hot Toys 1/6 figure is just pure magic. Instant minute-one pre-order for me.

I’ve heard some early concerns about the materials used for this 12″ figure’s costume, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The Hot Toys Deadpool figure’s costume appears to be made of fabric and not any kind of plastic or elastic, so it theoretically shouldn’t have issues with ripping or tearing (a la the awful Arkham Batman figure with rubber suit). I own close to a hundred Hot Toys MMS figures and I’ve never had an issue with the costume of anybody ripping. This should be a non-issue.

While it’s likely that more accessories will come with the actual figure than what’s being displayed at the 2015 Toy Soul event, we can see that Deadpool will come with at least two swords, a pistol that can fit into his holster, and his a display stand with flexible support.

Just about the only thing that I don’t like about this Hot Toys Deadpool 1/6 figure is the figure stand display base. It just doesn’t seem right to me for a realistic-styled, movie-based Deadpool figure to be standing on a base that has his own face plastered onto it and his name on the front. I think a terrain base (or even just a generic black base) would have been preferable to this style of base in this instance, but maybe that’s just me.

With the Deadpool movie launching in under two months, I would be shocked if we don’t see pre-orders for this figure open up within one month of today (but hopefully much sooner!).
