The eyes of the collecting world are turned to San Diego Comic Con today—but for Diamond Select Toys, it’s just another Pre-order Friday! And this time, they’re putting up for pre-order four new Marvel collectibles they just unveiled at SDCC 2023 earlier this week: Marvel Gallery Magneto, X-23 Wolverine & MCU Vision mini busts and a rare resin statue for classic Beta Ray Bill!
It’s a bit of a tradition for Diamond Select Toys to hold some completed prototypes in reserve to reveal at a major event immediately before opening pre-orders for them, and DST stays consistent with that tradition with their showing for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2023.
Fresh off of debuting a half dozen-plus new Marvel items at SDCC (I’ll talk about the remainder this weekend), four of DST’s new Marvel collectibles are now open for pre-orders!
Perhaps the biggest surprise at their booth was a resin Beta Ray Bill Marvel Premier Collection statue. Bill doesn’t get a lot of high-end merch, so this feels like a real treat. Someone at DST must really love Beta Ray Bill, as he’s recently gotten love in Marvel Select, Marvel Gallery and now even the Premier Collection!
Marvel Premier Collection Beta Ray Bill feels about as classic as can be with BRB in his most recognizable costume and standing atop the Bifrost (Rainbow) Bridge. This is in the iconic Bowen Designs 1/7 scale, which seems appropriate since the only ever other Beta Ray Bill resin statue was by Bowen (and now immensely rare and expensive on the aftermarket). Marvel Premier Collection statues can be hit or miss, but I think this 12” one is a real winner.
The Marvel Gallery PVC statue/figure line also expands with Magneto, who I legit would have expected was already in the long-running line (he’s not, although a resin Premier Collection statue was released early on in that series).
X-Men seems to be a sure-thing in the PVC line, so I’d expect more villains on the way beyond this very Jim Lee-looking 10” Magneto statue and the Omega Red that also debuted at SDCC.
On the mini bust dude of things, we get two new busts, each in a different scale and from a different form of media!
It’s a mite surprising to see an MCU Vision bust so long after WandaVision, but he’ll fit in nicely with the other 1/6 live-action busts Diamond Select Toys is releasing (like the Chris Hemsworth Thor bust shipping later this year). The vivid colors and elaborate details on Vision’s cape look terrific, and this 6” bust just looks awesome all-around.
Finally, Laura Kinney X-23 Wolverine joins the 1:7 scale comic book busts line! I like this line a lot because the size is so close to the Bowen Designs busts series with hundreds of characters in it, and this 6” Wolverine looks like she’ll fit in seamlessly.
X-23 Wolverine hasn’t been pushed quite as hard by Marvel lately, but I think the details here are excellent. The gritted-teeth and wild, flowing hair feel perfect to me as a longtime mini bust lover. The sub-$100 MSRP is also appreciated.
All four of these statues are up for pre-order now and expected to arrive in early 2024. Will Diamond Select Toys be reaching into your wallet for any of these newly solicited sculptures, Marvel collectors?
