I had a whirlwind romance with Loot Crate that started last fall and turned out to be short-lived. While I’ve enjoyed a couple of Marvel items over the last half year, for the most part I’ve been throwing away the junk that comes as monthly “loot”. But while my honeymoon with LootCrate is over, a new subscription box infatuation has begun: with Funko! The inaugural Funko Marvel Collector Corps April 2015 box has now arrived, and was the most fun I’ve ever had unboxing a mystery box…

After months of build-up and anticipating, Funko’s premiere Marvel-themed bi-monthly subscription box has finally arrived! Every single item in the box is totally exclusive to Marvel Collector Corps members… but do the parts add up to being worth $25 per shipment? Read on…

My motto is “When it comes to collecting, I know no shame.” And that’s probably a good thing, because otherwise I might take the postman’s funny looks the wrong way as he handed me my brown box covered in Marvel logos and half a Captain America head (and is it my imagination, or is Cap giving bedroom eyes?).

But seriously–both the exterior and interior of the first Marvel Collector Corps box are covered in fun graphics, and if my wife wouldn’t kill me, I’d definitely hang onto these empty boxes after removing all the goodies inside.

Once you actually open the box, you can catch a glimpse of your first two exclusive items: a cool Marvel Collector Corps Ultron patch and a Captain America pin!

On their own, I would almost definitely not buy either of these items, but as exclusive bonus add-ons I’ve already paid for? Yeah–these will look good on my messenger bag.

But let’s open up the top flap and get to the main events!

First, we’ve got item that the vast, vast majority of folks who ordered this sold-out Avengers Age of Ultron Marvel Collector Corp box did so for: the Funko Hulkbuster POP Vinyl!

I’ll be reviewing the 6″ Hulkbuster Funko POP Vinyl figure itself in full next week, but for now, just take a look at the packages photos and see how killer this monster of a POP! Vinyl looks!

The back of the box shows the remainder of the first series of Avengers Age of Ultron POP Vinyls, available now online and at specialty stores everywhere.

Next, we’ve got an exclusive T-Shirt. This is actually my least-favorite item in the whole Marvel Collector Corps Avengers box. This shirt is merely “okay”, and unfortunately just not impressive to me compared to the excellent unofficial Teefury shirts that I’ve become accustomed to.

I decided not to grace this particular article with my smiling face, but if you really want to see me, you can check out my review of the I Am Rocket Raccoon Hoodie, which came perilously close to causing me to feel shame.

Thirdly, it’s an exclusive variant cover for Guardians of the Galaxy Team-Up #1. Funko/Marvel announced this item, so I was expecting it. As a result, I didn’t spend $4 buying GOTG Team-Up #1 already. Thanks, Marvel!

I’m not a variant cover collector–at all–but I know this will be considered a big incentive for many Marvel comics collectors. I’d expect we’ll see an exclusive comic book cover with every Marvel Collector Corps Funko box from here on out.

Finally, we’ve got my surprise favorite item in the box–the first Marvel Dorbz figure to ever be released: Ultron!! I managed to avoid being spoiled for the contents of this box, and I am so glad, because my face totally lit up with surprise and joy when I discovered the Ultron Dorbz vinyl in my box!

I plan to do a full review of the Funko Dorbz Ultron figure in the next few days, but take my word for it: this is the cutest gosh-darn Ultron toy ever!!
