UPDATE 1/1/2019: The new year has rolled in–and as expected, it’s brought new Marvel Legends figure pre-orders with it! The Captain Marvel movie 6″ figure series–plus comic-based Grey Gargoyle and Genis-Vell–are now all up for order as singles! Finally, we can get those orders in for that Marvel Legends Goose the Cat figure that we’re all been waiting for…! Happy New Year!
ORIGINAL: We heard months ago that the Captain Marvel Legends series was going to be seven figures plus the Kree Sentry Build-A-Figure, but with zero information since October (when Marvel Legends Grey Gargoyle was announced), and four Marvel Legends Captain Marvel movie figures up for order online already, many collectors had begun to wonder if the seventh figure was a myth. But wonder no more! The final figure in the wave has been revealed: Goose the Cat (…plus a bonus pack-in Bomber Jacket Captain Marvel figure)!
She comes packed with her pet, Goose the Cat, whose name is already cemented in my mind because of the plethora of figures of Goose that Funko is releasing. Strange to see a pet get so much merch, huh?
Well, if that seems suspicious to you, but you want to avoid any spoilers for the movie, you might want to stop reading right here and click away to a different article… because…
…Marvel Legends Nick Fury’s secret accessory has now been revealed! It’s Goose the Cat… walking bipedal and held prisoner in manacles?! Yup! It looks as though, just like in the comic books, Carol Danvers’ cat is an alien. But is it a Flerken like in the comics… or a Skrull…? Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Speaking of Skrulls, there’s one in this series: Talos. He looks… pretty boring, frankly. He doesn’t even seem to come with an accessory of any kind. But perhaps he’ll be a really compelling villain in the film and we’ll all end up itching to own him in toy form (although somehow I doubt that).
Star Force Commander may or may not be (but most likely will not be) Mar-Vell. This is another figure of a character unlikely to ever appear outside of this film, so his popularity will depend largely on his role in the film.
For comic book fans, there’s two non-movie figures in the wave: Grey Gargoyle and Genis-Vell. I’ve heard a lot of complaint about the choice of body mold for Grey Gargoyle not being buff enough, which I agree with, but I think Hasbro nailed the deco and portrait for this figure. And hey—it’s nice to finally get a 6” Grey Gargoyle, right?
Genis-Vell is a favorite of mine, as I fondly remember this Peter David run on the character, and I’ve got zero complaints about this action figure of him. For me, this is the best figure in the whole wave—downright perfect.
The Kree Sentry BAF has perhaps the least buzz I’ve seen for a ML Build-A-Figure in years. Loads of collectors don’t know about Kree Sentries, and many of those who do don’t like the look of this one. I think this BAF looks fun as a toy, but I’d be lying if I said I was bouncing up and down with anticipation for this one myself.
I think the Brie Larson likeness is vastly superior on this version of Carol vs. the flight jacket iteration, and I love the heck out of that interchangeable masked head with Mohawk hawk. This $20 Hasbro figure seems almost on par with the Bandai SH Figuarts version—at a fraction of the price. Cool beans.
None of the Captain Marvel movie figures are currently up for order, although Amazon previously had listed the four movie figures besides the new Captain Marvel Bomber Jacket figure with Goose. Presumably we’ll see the figures go up for pre-order from all retailers in the near future, as they are expected to be released in spring 2019.
Originally these figures were anticipated as a mid-January release, but Hasbro hasn’t listed the 6″ line among the Captain Marvel movie toys launching in January 2019, so I wonder if they’re going to be a little late…
Regardless, we’ve finally seen the full lineup of the series, so what’s your verdict, Marvel Legends collectors? Are you aiming to buy this whole wave and build the Kree Sentry Build-A-Figure, pick up just the movie (or comic) figures, or save your dollars for different Marvel figures coming our way in 2019?
Star Commander is actually Yon-Rogg, not Mar-Vell. There was a leak of the glam for his Funko POP and it said Yon-Rogg. Future versions of this glam have him as Star Commander.
I think the Star Commander figure actually looks like Carol Danvers. The nose and mouth just look feminine to me?
I agree.
Really like that Captain Marvel figure (the one without the jacket). Looks better than the comics based one from a while back.
Goose is a fun surprise, didn’t think we’d get figures of the cat.
Grey Gargoyle is a must for me. I have a soft spot for him because of the 90’s Iron Man cartoon.
Not all that familiar with Genis-Vell, but man that’s a good looking figure.
So yeah, pretty nice wave.
They look nice. Not sure why they did use the new face tech for the bomber jacket and the Skrull looks like a vampire from the 1030’s movies gonna but the whole wave.
Hasbro is saving me cash on this wave as I’m taking a pass on the entire thing. I know I’m probably in the minority, but movie characters rarely appeal to me in action figure form and as for the two comic based figures, Grey Gargoyle’s way to skinny and Gents-Vell was never a favorite of mine. The BAF is a waste too. I really can’t see anyone going out of their way for it.
right now i’d have to say little interest in the BAF so i’ll cherry pick the wave. Will definitely pick up genis-vell and will likely get the non-jacket Carol.
I’ll probably end up getting the skrull (barring an announcement that a comic skrull figure is coming out) as well as grey gargoyle although i’ll likely wait for a sale.
The kree warrior, Fury, and bomber Carol are figs i don’t have much interest in and would only buy if & when they drop to $10 or so.
I am really into cosmic marvel characters and wish i was more enthusiastic about this wave. i’m hoping that the actual BAF Sentry will look much better than what we’ve seen but I’m not holding my breath.
Preordered the non-jacket Carol, Talos, and “Starforce Commander” when Amazon had them up a while back. If I pick up Fury or Jacket Carol, it’ll be when I find them on sale. No interest in the rest, or in the BAF.
And for those saying Jacket Carol has a hideous likeness (and from the pic, it absolutely does), consider:
1) It could be a prototype, and the actual likeness could be just as good as the non-jacket Carol;
2) Even if it remains bad, non-jacket Carol comes with two heads, so just pop off the offending likeness — problem solved 🙂
Not usually an MCU collector, but I love all of the Captains Marvel, so I’ll probably pick up the whole wave and then try to flip the ones I don’t want to keep. I’m also curious if we’ll see any exclusive two-packs for this one, like Mar-Vell and Carol in her green uniform.
Definite keepers for me are Captain Marvel, Carol w/ jacket, Starforce Commander, and Genis-Vell, plus the two Goose accessories. Talos is a maybe (I think he looks cool). I’ll likely part with Nick, Grey Gargoyle, and the Kree Sentry, depending how they look in person.
Outside of the Grey Gargoyle I’m more than happy to skip this wave. Just not for me even tho Genis and the Starforce Commanders figures look pretty decent. Just not feeling the rest of the wave or the BAF even though it is pretty cool that they finally made a Kree Sentry figure. Just wish more thought and care had gone into its sculpting.
I might pick one or two of these up after they have dropped in price to about 10 bucks. And they will…
Excited to just pick up those comic figures! That Genis Vell looks awesome.
Based on the second trailer that made the movie look WAY BETTER than the first trailer did…I think I will at least need/want the Captain Marvel with the two heads.
Maybe I am crazy…but the bomber jacket one looks really weird…but I still almost want it just for the cat.
😂
The rest of them…I dunno. I need to see the movie first .
Grey Gargoyle and The BAF only, for me. Carol is Ms. Marvel. Not Captain Marvel. Passing on the movie, too.
I would have loved it if they included a Ms. Marvel figure in this wave for the retro look in the comics. They could just have my money instantly if they did that.
Actually, she’s Captain Marvel. Just looked it up. Been that way a couple years it seems. Who knew?
Yeah no she isn’t.
I don’t care what SJWMarvel says. Carol Danvers is Ms. Marvel.
Just looked it up again. She totally is. Who knew?
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo
LOL
That bomber jacket photo looks like Amy Poehler.
Hey, who doesn’t love Parks and Rec? 😉
